oh what a pity – but i will tell you about it
Lucky’s lemon meringue pie is so perfect its a work of art. its huge and light. the top bit is the egg whites from angel hens and has been delicately whipped until fluffy yet somehow substantial whilst remaining light and ethereal. The yellow lemony pie is very subtle and understated, sitting as it does, on a homemade pastry of exquisite delicacy.
Words fail me but that gives you some idea.
…. and there’s some left for dessert – heheheh.

Lemon Meringue is my fav. MrBL and I often go out for a coffe on a Sunday and I’m on a mission to find the perfect LM pie. Topping the list so far (if you’re ever in Bris) is the New Farm Deli, which by the way, is an excellent deli and something of a Bris icon and a great place for lunch.

Blushes and preens :D

Thank you so much for the kind words on the pie:D

Make me wanna run back and grab the left overs and eat them myself tonight;P

That lemon came in at 471 grams too.

One of the eggs was 86 grams as I gave Mr. 7 Mrs. Pepe a couple of dozen eggs, and some more worm wee.

I can home with lemons off their own tree, Italian parsley for the kitchen, English spinach and more celery seedlings.

Had a FABBER TABBER of an afternoon with them, went far too quickly. Talked to “Aspro”, my baby rooster, is looking pretty darn sexy with his wives.

I got to see Mrs. Pepe’s pasta maker……. ( I want one) birfty is coming up…ya listening elf????

Had a look around Pepe’s garden….. so much happening. had a squiz at Pepe’s compost bays as well. Looks good and can’t wait for mine to look like Pepe’s.:D

we had to sacrifice something and they were not well established. once established they are drought tolerant in the extreme.

Location duly noted. If you find any more let me know. Always on the look out. I don’t mind cheesecake shop lemon meringue. Some places make the lemon way too sweet. I love the contrast between the lemon and meringue; and if the lemon’s sweet it just doesn’t work.

The NF Deli ones are individual pies and they’re served with a tangy red berry coulis. Yum Yum.

I’ll have to try the Cheesecake Shop one, I buy their unfilled Pavs.

its a forum – and we all are writing in real time – therefore errors (silly ones usually) occur. it’s not like a novel where there is reworking of every word and proof readers etc. the most important thing is to be easily understood.

Oh and good morning. A few mls of rain overnight here.
I’m not sure how long worm wee can be stored, so I gave my citrus all a boost with it, mixed with rainwater.

Sunny atm, so after chooks have finished laying they can have a scratch in the yard. Their run is mostly shaded in winter.
Up to 7 eggs a day now, and they are getting bigger :)

Got 2 cake orders, mud cakes , they are the ones I get the most orders for, they are needed for wed but I will have them finished and iced by tonight. I’m going to make another baked cheesecake too.. this time the normal sized one, for us.

ms pepe makes a very similar one and it is fantastic (even tho’ it has cracks in it).
i’m surprised you have a cake tin for your 2kg one. ms peps has a sort of expandable

Baking paper up and over the sides in a dead square large baking dish. When cold the baking paper makes it easy to lift the item out without breaking it.
I have several of the springform tins , the levered ones, but when people ask for a slab of something, I use this one baking dish.

Mind you, it’s a teamwork thing to get the item out..usually 2 or 3 people and hands all around holding the paper and lift to the count of 3, with a cake board or platter ready to lift it onto. The paper is tucked under the dish and placed on a baking sheet to keep it from flapping all over the oven and causing a fire.
I’m like Wilma Flintstone with giant pots and pans LOL.

Hey Pepe,
Can I pick your brains about spuds please? I’m a bit confused about how to treat them before planting. I know I had instructions with my last lot of seed spuds to keep them indoors and in the light on a tray or an eggbox until they chitted. Recently I’ve read that you’re supposed to keep them in the dark for this purpose, and you only put them in the light to toughen them up and turn them green. Can I have the benefit of your wisdom and experience ??

a similar question faces me. i have bought chats (small spuds for eating not growing) and placed them in my hothouse. they will turn green and hopefully sprout. the greenest doesn’t matter if you are planting.
a dark spot is just as good except they won’t sprout unless they get warm enough – hence my experiment in the hothouse.
if you’ve got certified seed they don’t need to be sprouted before planting IMHO.

Not my parsley seeds HP…… gave you carrot or spring onion when you were here…. I’ll be written on the packet if they came from me. “Lucky’s Duck Farm” on the front.

if you’ve got certified seed they don’t need to be sprouted before planting IMHO.

I have little sprouts on the Nicola spuds.

When are you going to plant them Lucky?

In the next couple of weeks. I have my green manure to pop in (still) and the raspberry area to sort out and get ready for spring growth.

Oh thanks Peps. I’ve got them in my greenhouse which is unheated. I might bring them inside then. If they sprout will it matter that it’s still cold outside when I plant them ?

my hothouse is only heated when the sun shines. are you like me and using non-certified?
all of this is to plant in august – so if you don’t need to plant early it doesn’t matter – they will sprout sooner or later. you can plant anytime between now and say november. sir pete planted his in tassie last month – but he has to cover them with cardboard every day between now and november to avoid frost damage (and remove the card every day the sun shines).
Have we got a spud topic? – obviously its the flavour of the month.

ROTFL……. that’s what rabbits are for;P
I shall take you tip and run with it:)

Well I wish I had rabbits again to eat it. Strange but the chooks wont eat it. I mix a bunch of lgreens for them, lettuce , cabbage silverbeet and parsley ect , but the parsley is left uneaten. If your chooks eat it I want them to come and have a word to mine lol.

Oh that’s good Peps, I feel more confident now. I have planted some non-certified ones that were sprouting in the pantry and am not that anxious about them, but I’ve also bought a lot of certified ones that I Thanks again.‘m keen to do the right thing by.
Thanks again.

nope – i give dubious advice as well. lol.
fortunately lucky and i are close geographically. you’ve got yeeehaaah close to you. and the melbonites gather round at thee’s place – so the groups meet according to travel times.
that diggers dinner that BG mentioned could see us all come together one day – it sounded extraordinary – and i reckon we might travel to vic for that one.

That is a good idea Pepe.
Planning a meet for us all, what a challenge, we are all over beautiful Oz , but it could be done.
Whatever I could do to help I would , if such an event were to occur :)

I’ll let you all know when the next one is on as soon as I know.

Hey Pepe,
Can I pick your brains about spuds please? I’m a bit confused about how to treat them before planting. I know I had instructions with my last lot of seed spuds to keep them indoors and in the light on a tray or an eggbox until they chitted. Recently I’ve read that you’re supposed to keep them in the dark for this purpose, and you only put them in the light to toughen them up and turn them green. Can I have the benefit of your wisdom and experience ??

I usually just stick them in the ground. I don’t worry if they have sprouted or not. If any get left in the ground from the previous crop they sprout OK without special treatment…
