I just rang roughy to check on his wellbeing.

He is alive and well but still having problems getting his computer going again, he also has bigger problems dealing with an aged MIL and finding another reliable ute. He said the break from the internet has helped him catch up on many neglected tasks.

He said he will be back again,sometime soon.

PS He said to tell buffy to pass on his thanks to all those people in the gardening forum that remembered his birthday.

Thanks tauto. Good news about RB. I hope he enjoyed his birthday. Yes, he’s right about it being nice when our birthdays are remembered (even if we don’t think they’re important to us).

My best friend celebrated her 40th a couple of days ago and told me yesterday I was the only person who remembered! She has a husband, daughters, mother, brother, SIL etc. :(

Unfortunately this computer is in my MiL’s unit and if I get a few under my belt there are a lot of kilometres full of random breath test opportunities on the way home.

Dunno but it looks like cb88 never upgraded or downgraded the hyperforums to show chat in the holiday side on google chrome on XP.. Can see it in the gardening forum.. but not this side.

If you’re still using XP there’s a problem: MS have stopped supporting it.

yeah yeah tell me about it. Before it stopped waking up, I was using a Mac running on PPC which they stopped supporting almost a decade back. Firefox stopped supporting PPC at version 3.6.28.

You can put a perfectly good linux distribution on your old hardware…

On this hardware.. yes. However this is my MiL’s.. and I think I’d upset her three daughters if I hacked the computer about.

On my Mac, I could also install it but it would be unnecessary if the computer hardware was functioning.
