Well now I’m afraid.
How can someone reference a Ben King song as the first post to a Beatles thread :)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, (sic) I know John did a version.
No thanks, I’ve got some Twisties.

The cheese was polished off hours ago. The beer is cold, and there’s still lots left.
I’m going to watch the Neil Oliver doco from last night on SBS on Demand, then I’m going to bed before I drink too much of the beer.
Coincidentally, I just loaded Sgt.Pepper’s on to my media player last night.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes

Indeed I did.
We consider ourselves husband and wife… we have been living together for over four years.
One day we would like to make it ‘official’.

One of my favourite mondegreens:
The girl with colitis goes by.
Ye Highlands and ye Lowlands,
Oh, where hae ye been?
They hae slain the Earl o’ Moray,
And Lady Mondegreen.

When did people stop buying records?
I’ve got about 100 of them.

I guess the fade out was from 1984 to 1988.

I took all my records (and record player) to the tip when I moved out of the Mole Creek property around the turn of the century. Seemed a bit pointless hanging onto it when it was all available in one digital form or another.
By the time I got married and had kids, CDs were already well and truly on the way out.

Last time I looked my Anne Briggs LP was worth a bit, but I doubt if any of the others are.
When did vinyl records become standard issue for sales of recorded music?
How many generations grew up listening to records?

Vinyl took over from shellac in the late 1940s.

So perhaps 2 generations, till CDs took over in the late 80s/early 90s. CDs served only one generation, if that, before being supplanted by digital formats.

Of course, gramophone records were around a long time before vinyl was invented. They became popular in the 1890s. Before that, it was mostly wax cylinders.
I was just trying to picture in my mind’s eye a few old-timers sitting around at a party when some youngsters stuck on one of those new-fangled vinyl records, and reminisced about the youth of that day not knowing how to play a wax cylinder.
