So, my new computer has the latest Windows stuff. I have set it not to take updates unless I tell it to go ahead. In previous iterations, when updates were available, a little yellow shield came up in the bottom bar thingy, I could click on it, it told me what was available, and I OK’d or otherwise. This little shield does not seem to appear on the new version. How do I know, without having to check each day, when new updates are available. Or how do I turn on the notification shield thing?

I just got caught with several hundred meg of updates that I didn’t know were ready to go. If I know when they come through I can budget my dongle allowance.

There’s a little white flag down the bottom near the clock.

OK, I’ll have a look. I’m in Casterton at the moment on the computer before the computer before the computer. This one still does the little yellow shield thing….and there is on there now, even though it’s told me several times that there is no support for this system any more.

Thanks guys.

Try

Start > Control Panel > Windows Update > Change Settings > Important Updates > Check for Updates But Let Me Choose When to Download and Install Them > Click OK

check that all the other options are the way you want them

I am always very very aware of my dongle allowance.
