Can anyone recommend alternatives to Invision Power Board? I’m an admin at a forum and the forum owners is going to shut it down due to costs (approx $1500 per year). Forum members have talked about starting a new forum that does not cost as much (or anything at all, if practical). The current forum uses Invision Power Board version 3.4.5 and we want to be able to move everything over intact: no making people rejoin, existing threads & posts remain, etc.

Any ideas?

I have no clue, but there are people around here who know how to set up and maintain a Forum. Arranging for existing threads an posts to remain is likely to be tricky, when the predecessors of this forum shut down the posts were not transported into any of the three forums formed in its wake. On the other hand, someone here did keep a backup of one of the predecessor forums, “scribblybum” as a backup for “scribblygum”.

I note that the “orange in the dark” forum run by squeezebabe has now shut down.

It would be handy if we could just transport intact to a new site but hey….

Surely there are similar free IP Boards?
