Tasmania mooted as growing site for medicinal cannabis

The bid to legalise cannabis for medical use is gaining momentum, and Tasmania has been suggested as a growing site.

A cross-party delegation from New South Wales will be in Tasmania next week for a site visit and will meet the state Health Minister.

NSW MP Kevin Anderson, who is working on a private member’s bill to legalise medicinal cannabis for the terminally ill in that state, will lead the delegation.

Haven’t they already got the monopoly on medicinal poppy too?

Does this mean the terminally ill will be packing up and moving to Tassie then?

FWIW I support the use of medicinal mj.

No. Victoria is muscling in on that. The pharma companies need to diversify their base.

I don’t know about you, but if I was terminally ill, I don’t think I’d be giving the legality of my medication a second thought.

One of the protestors against the Telstra mobile phone tower at Corlette made the claim in his letter, that there are 100 homes within a 200m radius of the proposed site.

I’m skeptical, but can’t seem to find a map. Surely that’s not possible, we’re talking normal homes on 1/4 acre blocks.

There could potentially be 125 blocks of 1000 m^2 each.

That doesn’t allow for any roads, etc, but many “1/4 acre blocks” are less than 1000 m2, so I’d say it’s just about possible.

Well, Tasmania does have a big plantation of medicinal poppy. So medicinal cannabis would be a minor step.
