Last night I went to a mates place for his birthday, it was also the birthdays of his son and daughter, what are the odds of that occurrence?
What % of the population die on their birthday?

I read about this recently. I think it is the same as the odds of any random three people in the crowd having the same birthdays. But I can’t remember the details and I’ve lent the book to a friend. If there were a lot of people there, it is more likely that such a coincidence would occur. (If I understood the book correctly)

And quite a lot of elderly people die around their birthday, or Christmas. Hang on to see the family or reach a milestone birthday and then give in to the inevitable. My mother in law, however, with whom I got on very well, decided not to hang on to Christmas and popped off on the 15th December (many years ago now). Making it necessary to organize a funeral in the week before Christmas. Thanks, Carmel, I know you are laughing!!

When I get old I’ll supplement my lifestyle with LSD and steroids

It’s anyone’s guess when I’ll go

Pointless anecdote: my aunt died on her birthday last year and I looked up the stats. Offhand I can’t remember, something like 3%?

I would have thought something closer to 0.3%, but anyway…

My grandfather’s second wife decided to get through her birthday (24/12) and most (~80%) of the next day before popping off on christmas night.

If it was purely by chance, 1/365^2 or about 130,000:1

About 100/365%

1 in 365.25 chance of dying on your birthday or 0.274%.

Then again, I’ve seen many people in nursing homes die in winter and I’ve heard that more people die just after Christmas than at other times during the year, so I guess if your birthday is in winter or between 25/12 and 1/1, maybe you have an even better chance.

Did they actually have three birthdays on exactly the same day, or were they just close enough to be worth celebrating in one party (e.g. maybe with a week)?

Both my sister, our uncle, and one of his daughters share a birthday.
It’s also the same day as four other people I know’s birthday.
