Superior space image ‘shows off’ ASKAP capabilities

A RECENTLY released image of deep space has proven the revolutionary capabilities of the CSIRO’s Australia SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) radio telescope in Western Australia.
ASKAP is developing and improving technologies for the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope, which will start construction in Australia and South Africa in 2018.
Researchers have now released a clear image of distant galaxies, which they say proves the capabilties of CSIRO’s radio telescope and its new phased array feed technology to take images of remarkable clarity.
