Anyone familiar with photo files that have a .KDC suffix?
Developed and used by Kodak apparently, got some images that won’t open up in PhotoShop, and can’t find any way of converting them to something readable.
Any advice/help gratefully accepted.

Did you get this resolved, Neophyte?
I’ve never used .KDC files myself, but apparently they’re a raw image format used in some older Kodak cameras. Kodak supply a free converter program on their site, but it may not work on versions of Windows more recent than Windows 95.
However, Irfanview can open .KDC files (allegedly). And there’s a venerable Open Source program called dcraw that can process them, too. If you have Linux, you may have dcraw already installed, but there’s also Windows versions available.
dcraw can convert raw images to 48 bit PNG, so you don’t lose the extra colour depth from the raw camera data, and it’s also very good at doing the proper colour mapping required to convert raw camera data to other image file formats.
Kodak supplied a converter for Mac, but it was so old that the dialogue box came up with it claiming there was no Classic OS to support it :-(

Oh dear.
FWIW, there’s a dcraw for OSX. It is a command line program, but it shouldn’t be too hard to use – if you just want to convert a couple of images, the default settings should be fine.
