Earth and Planets Make Strange, Exquisite Noises | Video Compilation

Created by lightning, ‘whistlers’ travel along Earth’s magnetic field lines from hemisphere to hemisphere. Jupiter’s charged particles ‘sing’ across its magnetosphere (recorded by Voyager). And the University of Iowa’ Injun 3 (NASA Explorer program) recorded chorus waves from electrons spiraling down from Earth’s Van Allen radiation belts.

Yes. These have been known about ever since the first space probes went out past the planets, circa 1979. I found out about them when looking into ELF radio signals about five years ago, when I found that plasma waves both in the magnetosphere of the Earth and in the magnetospheres of other planets qualified as continuations of the electromagnetic spectrum down to and beyond 10 Hz.
