For those of us my vintage and older and can recall something that hit Darwin called Tracy. Here is some footage of Althea that smashed Townsville on Christmas Eve, 1971.

both Althea and Tracy broke wind recording instruments at the same speed, some 240kph. Both have been suggested as hitting 320kph in reality.

frightening sound !
we had a minny tornado go thru’ our place in the adelaide hills. it sounds like a train is passing over your head. our tornado had a very narrow path (say 12m wide) but anything in that path was ripped out, shredded, blown off or blown down.

Ohh memories!! .. that roaring sound .. I can’t remember what year it was but I was in Townsville when I was little and there was a cyclone go through. Siblings and I were so scared as adults started taping up windows and moving mattresses to make a cubby house and we had to stay in it.

Think I’ll give it a skip. I don’t cyclones – at least there’s some warning they may hit, unlike say earthquakes or even tornados. But I don’t need to watch a video to remember.

Elf flew out of Dawin the day before Tracy hit the city. He was working up there, building a building.

No problems. My issues are my issues, not anyone else’s. And really most of my memories are ‘communal conscience’. When you grow up surrounded by images and other people’s memories you tend to just adopt them as your own.

My mum; however, says she can not walk through the display at the darwin museum. Says it smells like rotting stuff. It’s all in her head, but still very real.

she wouldn’t like the Moresby Museum, it’s all very rotting, and none of that is weather related…

Sooooper Musty!
