Here’s a pic or two. Daffodils need no introduction. There’s a Freesia and my first potato showing its nose. I should have taken a “before” pic of the wood yard, it was covered in various planks and logs and was a complete eyesore. Grass up to your shoulder in places. Now the bags of horse poo are next to the compost bins, and the wheelbarrows are up against long planks supported by bricks. The 8 black bins are ready for my seed spuds.

ah – i see your bins now – did i say bury a hose? i still think you need a ‘wick’ sort of half way from the bottom. once the bin was half full i would put in a pipe or a piece of wood which is pulled out when the soil is to the top and backfilled with sand. you need some means of knowing water is getting to the bottom of those bins. they are going to get awfully hot in summer – would you sunscreen them in some way?
daffs are well in advance of mine – and looking beautiful.

Thanks Pepe,
Yes, you did say put a pice of Ag pipe in the bins :) I will rig up some sort of sun screen for them eventually but haven’t worked that out yet. I’ve got a lot of white – ish feedbags which I could fix up around the exposed edges of the bins. Do you think that would work?

even a whitewash of old paint or something would help reflect the heat rather than absorb it.

Nice pics or 4! What will you use in the tubs – would need a lot of potting mix to fill them.

straw bales on edge towards the sun side (north) would be best – but yes – bags would work.
are you planting soon? your advanced daffs – no frost (i think you said) – maybe your climate, down there on the peninsula, is warmer than i thought.

Straw bales would be good, but a bit too large for the area think. We have had several frosts here, but the daffs don’t seem to mind. These are not the first ones out either, already had a flush of a different type which is finished. More to come too.

They’re very good, but I’m too tall for it! I use it for lots of things though. Mixing stuff and soaking stuff mostly.

I’ll be filling them with compost, manure and Cane mulch Cackles, for my spuds. Also can use a bit of potting mix, B&B, and anything else that dawns on me :)

Lovely daffs O4o :)

I have been picking daffs jonquils and rununcs for weeks mid frosts too. Other bulb flowers too but can’t remember their names atm. Got a lovely big vase of them on top of my kitchen bench.
