I was lying in bed last night……………………………hang on I’ll rephrase that.
I was laying in bed last night, thinking and scheming etc when all of a sudden I sat bolt upright.

Since the six face of the dice has six indents cut into it it will be considerably lighter than say the one side of the dice that has only the one indent cut into it.
Therefore I postulate that the six will come up more than any other number over time.

I thought proper gambling dice were flush.

I have a most excellent book in my library by a guy named John Scarne. Absolute legend.

he goes into a lot of detail on dices and how to “fix” them

A good die will have been designed to compensate for this.

BTW, “ lying”, not “laying”, unless you were producing eggs or putting tiles down.

they would drill out the dots, put lead under them and replace the dots and polish them flush.

Also adjusting the chamfer on the edges can give you an advantage.

So I’ve heard. Yes, there are a number of ways to make dice (lay-lie die-dice) that are unbalanced. My favourite is to place the dice in a shallow pan of water, as they absorb the water the wet face gets heavier. I suspect that Derren Brown used magnetic dice for his experiment on “luck” in Togmorden, what do you think?
