Interesting load of photos showing different individuals from around the world posing with their complete food & drink rations for one day.

Photographers Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio, who also happen to be married, traveled around the world and met people from all walks of life.

During their time with these people, they asked them to pose for photographs with their daily diets in front of them. The craziest part about the entire project is the caloric intake difference between people of different walks of life.

According to Urban Times, some people are consuming 800 calories a day, while others are consuming up to 12,000 calories! The photos can be found in Menzel and D’Aluisio’s book, titled “What I Eat: Around The World In 80 Diets.”

Check out the photos below for a closer look!

What an unfortunate name.

The interwebs tell me an average male should have about 2500 calories a day while the average woman should have about 2000, just for comparison.

Yes, my sister and I were asking “I wonder how his bum garden is coming along.”

Over twice that for the truck driver + two packets of Marlboro.

That high school girl on 4000 calories certainly gets hungry.

Does that Bondi lifeguard really drink two bottles of cordial a day? Made up, that’s what, 8 litres.

I was wondering that too. I think they’re supposed to be mixed up already.

Rancher’s Wife! Pfft. She is a rancher too, thank you.

Of all these, I think the Chinese farmer lady has it worked out. Lots of good, filling food and only 1900 calories.

Hers is probably closest to the 3F diet, although I won’t be having rice.

Fortunately for you, foie gras starts with an F.

3F diet?

The 8 Weet-Bix man menu is probably the most familiar to me. Did anyone else notice that breakfast was not really identifiable for most of the others?

I was too busy imagining Mr Bumgardener being called over the PA at the airport.

:)

How can that cattle farmer woman survive on, was it 900 calories/day? She didn’t look too thin (in the face, at least). The cattle were too thin though.

Foliage includes all non-fruit plant matter, except cereals and starchy stuff like spuds which aren’t allowed.

But the diet doesn’t start until tomorrow, so here’s a little loaf of soda bread I’ve just baked, cooling.

Bumgardener is an unfortunate translation from the German Baumgartner. “Baum” having to do with trees.

I’ve seen a similar one and what a lot of people in developing countries eat as a normal diet is now consider superfoods in Western nations, no or little sugar or processed foods.

It has long been held that our salt and sugar intake should be a natural part of the foods we eat.

Our bodies convert starch to sugar anyway. The amylase in our mouth will make starch taste sweet if it is retained for a while. A good experiment for kids, using something like a Sao biscuit.
