Fobo pumps up Bluetooth Tire Pressure Monitoring system

The days of guessing how much air is in that one leaky tire may be over. Paired up with an Android or iOS device, Fobo’s new Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) uses Bluetooth 4.0 and individual tire sensors to actively monitor pressures and provide real time data to user’s smartphones on a 24/7 basis

I like this, but it needs a locking system to prevent theft

For corporate clients, the device can also be setup to monitor up to 20 cars from one app, which also allows up to 100 users to drive and monitor different cars when sharing mode is activated. While the tire-mounted devices would be easy to steal, each sensor is keyed to the owner’s own Fobo cloud account, making theft pretty pointless.

but dumb thief’s will not know this

There’s SmartWheels that have a chip built in with pressure & temperature sensors and a Bluetooth transmitter.

I proposed a similar system about 15 years ago when Bluetooth was not yet a full standard. The company I worked for was one of the early partners with Ericsson.

Such systems (not Bluetooth though) have been out for a fair few years.
We’ve got one on the Pajero’s tyres (not tires!!!) for about three years and the system was a few years old then.

I use the necktop computer for this. When I check oil and water before starting the car in the morning, I look at the tyres.

You check the oil and water daily?

mine gives barometric pressure also, temperature, and altitude, and via a sat’ link if my vehicle is stolen I can deflate the tyres.

Yes, every day. I used to drive 60km to work and 60km back for about 18 years, so a check is a small price to pay for safety. And after that it is just a habit. I only do a total of 60km a day now.

First parade service, check fluids, kick tyres. Apparently with modern tyres they can be well under but look properly inflated.

Indeed. They could be 20psi below spec and still look exactly the same.
