Subject: Turmeric component induces neural stem cell proliferation
It has been suggested that the major bioactive component of the spice turmeric (extracted from the herb Curcuma longa), aromatic turmerone, may have properties useful in treating neurodegenerative diseases. A recent study in foetal rats (in vitro and in vivo) has found that the compound increases proliferation of neural stem cells, suggesting a new approach for treating diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Aromatic-turmerone induces neural stem cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo (open access.)

This appears to lend some support to the claims made on pages like this:
Why you should eat turmeric

So is eating it beneficial, or do you have to have it injected into your brain?

I knew about it being trialled as a marker for plaques in the retina suggestive of Alzheimers:

That is oral administration. But I can’t find anything published by that group yet. So don’t hold your breath. And note the word “may” in the headline…

Ground turmeric is a standard ingredient in curry powders. You can use it on its own in dishes that would normally use curry powders. Often used in egg dishes.

Plenty of recipes using turmeric on the internets. Here’s a few BBC ones:

Simple and complex and variable depending on what ingredients are available. Say half dozen apples and pears, a handful of strawberries and of black grapes, two or thee carrots and same of celery stalks, a beetroot or two, tumeric and ginger(natural root) a couple of limes for zing and you are away. Put it through a CHAMPIION juicer. :-)

Always a salient point. This juice is made for more than one person so it doesn’t really get any time in the fridge.
