OK it’s the year 2014, we have rayguns, flying cars and sex robots. They can land a man on Jupiter, but there’s still no cure for the common cold. Why not? WTF is the problem?

One of the problems I think, is that it mutates when the virus infects another person

It’s a shape shifter. Always a step ahead. All the other concepts stand still while you evaluate them to fix them.

I agree 100%. we can put unmanned robotic explorers on Mars but I spent two days this week flat on my back and sound like I’ve been smoking 50 a day.
I say we’re spending too much on cancer research and not enough where it really counts……
On making sex robots better kissers and a cure for the common cold :)

Same here. This is the first cold I’ve had in ages in which there’s actually a cough. Bloody damn painful one, too.
well, I think the US army were immunizing for common adenoviruses a way back, not the ol’ rhinos though.
The problem is that “the common cold” is basically the reaction that the body has to any of hundreds of viruses.
Probably the other “problem” is that the condition is so mild that it is probably not worth investigating. Where do you want your research money going: towards treating prostate cancer or stopping people from being a little bit sneezy?

You wouldn’t be making light of it if you had this horrible hacking cough I don’t mind telling you.

Let us know when you’re chest and all gets really sore from coughing and you’re near chucking up.
…and how many $billions are lost to the economy due to sick leave because of the common cold, compared with more exotic diseases?

An apricot seed three times a day after meals and a cobalt enema.

Hopefully its not Captain Trips
Aye, my sainted grandma used to say, “Cobalt down the throat, dead as a stoat, cobalt up the clacker, dry as a cracker”.
Just booked a fasting blood test with my GP for next Wednesday. She’ll have my heart tests results saying there’s nothing wrong with me, so hopefully will agree it’s sensible to cancel the next cardiologist visit. That way I avoid another trip to Launceston and exposure to more disease germs.

Did she use to stick bacon up her nose to stop nosebleeds? Apparently it works very effectively.

Well if she did, she never mentioned it. That’s private.

I shared a car with two people a few months ago , when after 20 minutes the driver casually mentioned that she was sick with a cold
needless to say we both came down sick within days
I’ve had a couple of colds in the last year but nothing that is going to really interfere with my life: just do what I normally do but with a few sneezes.
I’ve also never had the flu.

My colds are usually very mild like that and pass in about 3 days without a cough developing. It’s the heavy colds with very painful coughing fits and debilitating headaches & fevers etc that are the nasty ones. Haven’t had one for years but I’ve got one now.
as a teenager I worked at heathrow
one of the customs blokes was telling me that recently he had been stood watching people come through customs when he saw an African bloke walking along but he looked “green’ for a better word.
he calls the bloke over and the bloke stands infront of him and without a word keels over backwards – dead before he hit the floor they reckon, whatever he was carrying was about to come walking through customs straight into society – the stress of being called over was enough to tip him over the edge.

Living in the country I usually avoid these things. My urban sisters seem to get nasty ones every year.

Alcohol rub! bottle of spirits, Johnny Walker will do fine, drink contents rapidly, then rub yourself all over with the empty bottle.
