Didn’t think you could stall one of these machines, I thought that at zero air speed they then behaved as a parachute. Whale oil!

Zero airspeed, probably. I am not sure they’d be able to handle negative airspeed.
The pioneer of gliding perished in a similar way:
Otto Lilienthal (23 May 1848 – 10 August 1896) was a German pioneer of aviation who became known as the Glider King. He was the first person to make well-documented, repeated, successful gliding flights. He followed an experimental approach established previously by Sir George Cayley. Newspapers and magazines published photographs of Lilienthal gliding, favorably influencing public and scientific opinion about the possibility of flying machines becoming practical. He died of injuries sustained when his glider stalled and he was unable to regain control; falling from about 15 m (50 ft), he fractured his neck.

I’ve been trying to get Skeptic Peat of Lemon Tree Passage and the Levant interested in paragliding for years.
I’ve scraped these buggers off cliffs.
Hang-gliders, too.
Seems to be a total lack of regulation.

Mate of mine was killed about 5 years ago in Croatia. It was some paragliding haven, and apparently there were multiple fatalities on the same day. Conditions changed suddenly.

*nods *
Mate of mine was killed in an Ultralite crash in Tyabb back in April. Nearly took his daughter with him. Nasty.
Last Hang-glider I picked off a cliff was crying blood. That’s memorable…

My daughter paraglided in Europe a few places. Came back to Canberra and had a bad landing. Crushed some vertebrae.

She’s since carried two children. The body is an amazing thing.

Yeah, there’s some pretty simple risk control measures that could be put in place…
