People in Victoria, NSW, Tasmania and the ACT will be able to view the lunar eclipse from 8.15pm to 11.35pm on Wednesday.
Queenslanders will be ablet to view it from 7:15pm to 10:35pm, while in South Australia the elipse will begin at 7:45pm and end at 11:05pm.
In Western Australia, the eclipse should be visible from moonrise at 6:19pm until it ends at 8:35pm.
In Melbourne, residents in the western and northern suburbs will get the best view. But south and east-siders, don’t despair: the difference is not so great that you’ll miss the extraordinary sight. Although the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a few showers in the afternoon, they are expected to clear by dark and just in time for the lunar eclipse.
In Sydney, University of Sydney associate professor of physics, John O’Byrne, said predictions of scattered clouds Wednesday evening should not deter amateur local astronomers.

(As seen from NE America) it is a selenelion: the Sun and eclipsed Moon will be visible together in the sky at the same time (due to atmospheric refraction.)

LOL, joke’s on me. I went outside earlier tonight and thought, “oh dear, the moon isn’t full, I expected it to be nearly full tonight”. I’d mistaken the partial eclipse for a different phase of the Moon. Can see it now, more than 1/3 covered at 8:45 pm from Melbourne.
I’d be interested to see if the stars are easier to see at total eclipse. Certainly those near the moon ought to be a lot easier to see during total eclipse than otherwise – even in the city.

Just had a gap in the clouds and saw it with a bite out, been raining here.

The southern sky has cleared here, but the northern part (where the moon is) still has heavy cloud cover.

Clearly saw the last of the total eclipse in clear sky (the start and middle were hidden by clouds).
Nearest star seen to the eclipsed moon was about 25 degrees away, much further than I had hoped.

I saw the moon yeah but not when it was red. Obscured by clouds when it mattered.

yeah same.
I’m really quite disappointed. I set up the telescope for the first time in months hoping for a good start to the new season. It’s been way too cold and damp the last few months to make it worthwhile going outside for any length of time.

Doesn’t matter. I’ve seen it red lots of times. Have even danced naked under it.

Decent snaps Carmen. I took some but haven’t checked them yet – they’ll doubtless be disappointing :)
