NOW, I’ve got vinegar flies swarming out of my wheelie bin when I opened the lid this morning!! It’s kept about 10 feet away from the worm farm. It was emptied this morning so I’ll watch what happens during the week. My garden helper put more weeds in as soon as it was emptied so I can’t hose it out.
Good grief!!!
That is all I can say. Are vinegar flies also ruled by the weather??? As in more prominent in certain weather patterns???

On the up-side, this morning I took out the milky bread and there seemed to be a few less in the worm farm. Maybe they go away in the wamer weather – very cold here at nights and early mornings.

in the non-worm-farm bin you can just throw in regular/builder’s lime to get rid of the vinegar flies pronto. also helps with smelly bins.
additional green vegetable waste and other green prunings will exacerbate the problem, so perhaps could be kept separately until vinegar flies problem is solved.
Actually my compost bin has been neglected with all this cold wet weather….. just throwing in the compost kitchen food/scraps….. I too have a pile of vinegar flies…….oops. Will have to fix that tomorrow or the day after.
