No we don’t have daylight saving as we (the Top End) are fairly close to the equator so our day and night are pretty close to 12 hours each. There is some slight variation between summer and winter but not enough to warrant Daylight Saving.

It’s still 4:21? I would have thought that would have gone by now!

As for the difference between summer and winter sunlight hours, to show how little there is – as a kid (even as a teenager) I could never remember if it was supposed to be longer light in summer or winter. It was so irrelevant a concept to my life.

its one of the reasons for the qld/nsw/vic dls debacle
the further you get south (and north) from the equator, the more d.l.s. makes sense until you get to the extremes at the poles where you really need to advance your clocks 6 months at a time (6 month long night and 6 month long day!!- well sorta)
qld really doesnt need it at all- 1hr isnt needed where i am (near qld border) but was nice in sydney- and really melbourne (and tassie) could almost do with 2 hrs at times…

Yukkypoo. I’d melt.

Glad you’re enjoying it though. I’m enjoying my winter. Will enjoy it even more next year when we’re in our toasty, insulated, wood-fire-heated house with big north-facing windows :)

A lifetime supply of firewood. Why build a fire (using coal) in Newcastle, to boil the jug in Glen Innes? What we’re planning to do is far less environmentally damaging in the long run than building a standard house.

And we’ll eat really well too :)

Might get some seeds in punnets if I can’t sit here on the puter of a night. Might go to bed early. Now that’d be a shock!

Several generations, smarty bum. Cos we’re gonna look after the 25 acres!!! Mr Y reckons that just the windrows of trees that the bulldozer knocked over to clear the house site will keep us going for at least a decade.

PS did you mis-spell “whose” on purpose? I never can tell whether you’re winding me up or not! The vocal inflections aren’t real clear from PNG, I find ;)
