The Chang’e 5-T1 mission is underway. The purpose of this mission by the China National Space Administration is to test various technologies for the real deal, Chang’e 5, China’s sample return mission to the moon, currently slated for 2016. 5-T1 will perform a swing-by of the moon on a free return trajectory and land back in China.

There are also various biological experiments on board.

The Chang’e 3 lander mission could be considered a partial success. The lander worked fine, but the small rover they sent out (Yutu) stopped moving after a month. It did return useful data but not as much as was hoped.

It a good time for a up and coming if not already there superpower to be involved in space, a lot of the hard work in testing designs etc has already been done and you can almost buy off the shelf rockets
