1 mother of all herbs sprinkled around (is related to the vicks vaporub plant)

2 dog’s electric fence: tapes about 6 inches apart…and one close to the ground…

any others?

Am going to Google butterfly nets to show sons, so they can construct one for me…the toads are too fast to get away but I thought a long-handled butterfly net would assist..

Canetoads make great soil tilth…

I’ve a home made toad catcher.

Long handle from an old mop, coat hanger through the hole in the end of the handle securely taped and a plastic shopping bay pegged to the coat hanger.

Works a treat. I’ll post a photo later.

Home made toad catcher ……………….

The plastic shopping bag is threaded onto the mop handle and tied. The rest of the bag is stretched around and pegged.
The shopping bag is good because it’s so soft.
More often than not the toad will jump when it’s covered and therefore jumps forward into the bag. If it just stays still I can use the bag to pick it up.
From there they go into another bag in the freezer and finally to their resting place in the vegie plot.

Thanks Crinkle, this will save me searching!

I put mine in an icecream container with holes in the lid. This goes into the fridge overnight, then into the freezer…I have this totally yuck fruit cake that I use to keep the lid on if it is suspect, as some have pushed it open and escaped…

I just use a disposable glove.

Now all I need is one of those torches you wear on your head and I’ll be set.

I had one of those when I was in Indonesia, because they turned the generators off over night. Bats would swoop down at my head when I went ouside for a pee at night – one of those weird memories I’l never forget.

Nothing to do with cane toads though :D

They should go into the fridge first so they go into hybernation before the freezer.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It has happened, Lucky, it has happened…we opened the beer fridge (the door had fallen off the little freezer at the top – a one-door fridge) and it was scary, seeing this gruesome monstrous hand poking up through the hoar frost…

All ice cream containers are required to be labelled now, “TOAD”…apparently the Europeans, Japanese and South Americans (where my children have travelled) are fascinated by this aspect of my housekeeping…

There’s howls of protest when we sit down to what we think is “oh goodie, icecream for dessert” after a meal, only to find that ….hmmm…ooooh YUK!…Muuuuuuuuuuum it’s a toad!!!”
