i’ve got some “proper” bean seeds but was wondering wether anyone’s tried shop bought bean seeds, and with what success. do they treat the dried beans to prevent germination? i’ve got some dried beans from the deli that are generally not available in garden stores in seed packets.

I’m growing dried broad beans at present that I bought at the Chinese grocers. I soaked them and then planted them. They are about 10ins high. I was a bit late putting them in but it’s still cold so they should be OK.

I saved some of my organic soya beans last batch that I bought. I forget them until I was going through my seed packets earlier tonight. Will let you know … maybe… don’t know when I’ll ever get to talk here with no internet and no electricity though :P

I grew some on the roof of an offshore oil platform in Africa. They were some local red and white beans from the kitchen. Cooks thought i was a nutter. Probably right.

No. Course not.

I only ever grow beans bought…dunno why though. Maybe cos’ we love beans so much and there is none spare.
