Subject: New Motherboard/chip

G’day my Geeky Friends!

Getting a new motherboard/chip combo for my computer. Have to get a chip as my old one is a 1156 socket and there’s almost no 1156 socket motherboards still being sold apparently. :(

So, I’m looking at ~$400 (up to $500 if necessary). Currently looking at this Asrock MB and this chip although I may not get them from there.

Questions – will that fit in my CoolerMaster RC430 Elite case? Will my Gigabyte ATI HD5750 OC PCI-E 2.0 1GB 128-bit DDR5 be compatible with it? How can I make sure of both of these?

And lastly, is that a good combo? Is there anything cheaper/better I could look at?

Cheers.

I wasn’t sure if I should take the chance. Anyone bought one off eBay before? Do I have a leg to stand on if it’s broken when I get it?

I’ve bought off there with no worries. Most have a 30 day return warranty, most of the bloody things are made in China anyway.

On that note, is there a way to ensure that my chip, case and graphics card are all still good with the one I choose?

Try to replace it with the same model as the blown one. The are shed loads on there, even some ex Oz.

I’m actually trying not to. ASUS are 0/2 with me. Rather switch it up.

I’m not that good to recommend anything apart from my own experience Twoy, probably see a repairer. But they have probably told you already that parts are no longer available. Lazy bastards.

Cheers anyway. I’m using Professor Google to find the answers :)
