Ooh, this is interesting:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-11-19/body-farm-to-study-decomposing-human-corpses-set-up-in-sydney/5904394

And it’s science. How did that get through the government vetting?

Makes it easier to leave one’s body to science. Those farms are always in need of bodies.

They need to find somewhere for all the ex-ABC staff.

they probably thought they were going to grow bodies there and that it would open up a new stream of export dollars, Buffy.

I’d be very happy to bequest my body to this experiment.

Morning all

Weather has been done this morning so nothing to add there.

Work social club Christmas party is tomorrow night and it’s an event that I don’t usually attend but we are going to make an appearance this year.

Our centre has a “special event” instead of a Christmas party and it a half an hour away from our desks using our own flex, this is added to our half hour lunch :)

“The project has been led by Professor Shari Forbes from UTS who studies the scents of decomposing human bodies to assist police officers training cadaver dogs.”

Nice work if you can get it.

It says they can’t use research from USA because the climate in USA is different.

I’m sceptical; surely there must be places in the USA that have a climate similar to places in Australia.

Especially underground.

Would different insect species effect that aspect of it?

But, are the organisms that cause breakdown the same? Probably not all.

Hmm

A friend of mine lives across the road from the Springvale Necropolis in Melbourne.

I think that translates to literally “City of the Dead.”

Always had a weird feel being at his place.

Sure, we have different bugs. The same can be said for different regions within Australia too.

there are around 10,000 different types of bacteria in the human body

everyone has a different set of bacteria, depending on their diet and environment

Obviously it would be quite far from residential areas but I’d still hate to be downwind on a hot day. The Hawkesbury region is also prone to bushfires.

Absolutely. Hence the need for regional body farm research. Reduces the need for cemeteries, too. ftw!

everybody’s bedroom will be unique to them for example

“When Beethoven passed away, he was buried in a churchyard. A couple days later, the town drunk was walking through the cemetery and heard some strange noise coming from the area where Beethoven was buried. Terrified, the drunk ran and got the priest to come and listen to it. The priest bent close to the grave and heard some faint, unrecognizable music coming from the grave. Frightened, the priest ran and got the town magistrate. When the magistrate arrived, he bent his ear to the grave, listened for a moment, and said, “Ah, yes, that’s Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, being played backwards.” He listened a while longer, and said, “There’s the Eighth Symphony, and it’s backwards, too. Most puzzling.” So the magistrate kept listening; “There’s the Seventh… the Sixth… the Fifth…” Suddenly the realization of what was happening dawned on the magistrate; he stood up and announced to the crowd that had gathered in the cemetery, “My fellow citizens, there’s nothing to worry about. It’s just Beethoven decomposing.”
