I have made inroads getting the 100 bales of sugar cane straw out. Lining the pool-fencing-fenced boundary as a low windbreak and slight weed impediment,( but would really need a fine insect screen type barrier though with all the fluffy-topped weed s whose seeds are blowing in from next door), and have just about mulched all the veggies.

Expecting one of my 3 sisters to visit so may not be here so much for a few days if she arrives. Had better get that spare room fixed up…

Overcast and a bit of sprinkle earlier this morning – rain is forecast – one of the reasons I want to get more bales moved before they get any heavier!

I’m cleaning as theres a meeting here soon with case manager DHS people and autism teacher lady, the iron fisted one who is going to shake us up lol. I have to get the house ship shape.

Glamour girl (middle daughter) started her new job today and when her old work threw her a leaving party last week, one of her co- workers gave her a lovely flower , well she thought it was a flower but turns out to be a potted plant in flower, some sort of lily/ tulip thing. Daughter thrust it at me saying she has no idea why the co-worker thought she would want a potted plant , she exclaimed “ Muuumm it’s got DIRT in it !!! “. LOL.

It’s potting mix actually but we wont go there lol. I’ll get a pic of it later as I haven’t a clue what it is.

Best go find the broom and start cleaning, bbl.

Hey Crinkle. Got you and Cackle mixed up earlier. She said her sister would be arriving in 2 hours from Caboolture. I was a very confused puppy! Caboolture to Darwin in 2 hours – that’s some jet!

Eventually got my head back on straight and worked it out.

Slow day at work today. I’ve got some work, but I’m trying to make it reach 5pm. I probably could have had it wrapped up by midday. Hard work stretching it out like this.

The Man is home with a sick girl. I earn more than him, and with my pay rise I now earn considerably more than him. Since we’re both casual, it makes far more sense for him to stay home than for me to miss a day. I expect to walk into a clean kitchen with smells of dinner wafting through the house. (And in my case that’s not a fairy tale expectation. Lucky girl that I am.)

I was hanging the washing out and got quite fascinated by the cloud formations. (Not paying attention to the job obviously :) )

Just remember that I only have 1 brother and no sisters and you will never get me confused again ;)

Excellent too that you can be secure in the knowldge that dinner will be well under way when you get home (that was hours ago now) ……..oh well.

One sure thing about teaching is that it’s never slow and boring. You never know what can happen next !!!

- liquid pigeon strained into drink bottles and some applied over sweetpeas, spud mulch and new celery.
- its a lot warmer here in adelaide – first morning in a week when my fingers weren’t cold.
- the onion seedlings are standing up.

ok – now for work and housework – and shopping and tax – ah – will not get it all done.

Had a great meeting here yestarday re giant son, it was determined he is still too dangerous to return home full time, so he will stay in care a further 12 months. But even to have him home on weekends and following dailys ( showering, correct bed time ect ) means a lot more to do ,( currenly no demands whatsoever are placed on him ) we need to clean out a shed and install a big strong boxing bag and hope to God it holds ..I reckon week one and the whole shed will be flattened lol, and to help ‘direct’ him to the shed when his thoughts are muddled and starting to kick off, it will first become an excercise area for all of us , we will spend time in the shed talking about “this is where we go if we feel like we want to hit something”… and if my next batch of choc chip bikkies doesn’t turn out I’ll be getting stuck into the thing myself!

whoops – yes pigeon poo – i don’t shred my birds. LOL.
they are funny creatures. all 10 of them live, perch and eat in a loft the size of a door – summer, winter and spring. remarkably tough – they will sit in the uninsulated loft on a 40 degree day and not notice the heat, while they sit on the roof of their shed in freezing rain and lift a wing into the rain to get more of it. i give them soft barley straw as bedding and they turf it all out of their loft and replace it with little sticks – no soft beds for them !

Just back from the blood bank. I give plasma as well as whole blood. It was a plasma day today.

The nurse presented me with a red cross pen for having given 25 donations. I asked what do you get for 50 ?
…………….. champagne and chockies. I might just do that. Will need to check if its before or after the 50th donation. Lol

I’ve had the day straight from hell..yep you know who trashed a school causing tens of thousands of damage , attacked people , 2 teachers ,2 students and one passerby , he on the phone to me as he was mid rage..me on the other phone telling the school people to get the hell out of there and stop trying to think they can calm him… and me on a third phone telling the cops to get the bloody phone off him asap.
He is back in the psyche unit. I’m just offloading.. sorry.

I know it’s been said before, but you deserve all the medals in the world for what you go through with your son. Life isn’t fair :(

Sorry for my absence of late, people.
I’ve had a bit of an awful month. :(

Ebs and Ella had been fighting over the last couple of months and it was escalating and they had a really bad one and stupid me stuck my hand in the way and ended up with 12 punctures in my right hand, which promptly swelled up like when you blow up a rubber glove to make the fingers pop out. Once I had them in separate rooms I went into shock from the intense pain (like slamming your hand in a door, but a door with teeth) and just the surprise I guess and collapsed on the laundry floor stripping off layers of clothing not sure if I was going to faint or vomit. Flatmate was really good and got me the medical supplies to treat it but I was incapable of doing anything for a while but just lying on the cold tiles. After about an hour I could sit up and treat it then managed to crawl to the couch and lie down there.

Made a doc appointment for the next day. Panadeine forte, 2 courses of antibiotics, a tetanus shot and anti-inflammatories and still couldn’t use my hand for a week (so swollen I couldn’t open or close my fingers as most of the punctures were on/near the joints and in the creases of the fingers if that makes sense). I have one finger that has a numb strip from the wound (just above the first joint) to the nail bed that looks like being permanent as it’s now been 3 1/2 weeks since the fight. Will load piccie of mutant balloon hand for you to all laugh over at some point but it’s late tonight and I should be in bed.

End result after a dreadful couple of weeks of keeping the girls completely separated (as they didn’t get along at all after that) – I’ve had to rehome Ebony, so didn’t feel much like talking except to ask advice on the dog forum I frequent as that was all I could think about. Some of you may remember the pics I posted, she’s the little black and white girl I fostered a year ago and fell in love with and kept…‘til now. :(
She just hit that age where she was challenging Ella and that was that.

Sigh

I miss my baby girl but it is the best for all concerned.

Got a million things to do before Monday. Finally found someone to house sit for us. The Man would have been happy finding someone to come in and feed the piggles & chooks, and just left 9 days of food out for the cat. I suspect even for our shy puss, that would have been way too traumatic.

Got to get a hair cut. Driving me bonkers. And a leg wax – hate to have a pretty frock with hairy legs LOL. Although, I guess it might be a uni look. Certainly not my look. And go to the library ‘cause I doubt The Man knows where it is to return our books. Plus – need something to read on the plane(s). Thinking I should also hem my dress LOL. The unfinished hem is fairly trendy at the moment, but again, not my style. And plant some more carrots, and beans, and lettuce, and …

Today is my run around like a headless chook, add lots of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere day. Tomorrow if its still fine I’ll spend in the garden. And then Friday (when it should be rainy) I’ll spend in the sewing room. Today is lovely and would be a lovely garden day; but I hate to risk having to run around all over town in the rain. Getting wet going from shop to shop makes for a miserable time; plus my car leaks.

Well, guess I better get started.

Yep that’s the spot. Big water here. Everything is big. Bugs, rain, trees, gas wells. Big.
We are getting about 3 inches of rain a day.( It’s the dry season i think so what do you expect.) Be nice in the wet season i reckon. Get a decent drop or two…

I can’t think what to say other than that I’m thinking of you, ……………..and orchid those aren’t wrinkles they’re character lines !!

It’s starting to warm up up here which is actually a bit early this year. At the moment it’s 34.9 degrees and 61% humidity.
We’re moving into what we call ‘The Buildup’ which is very hot, increasing humidity and as time goes on some occasional storms.
It’s the buildup to ‘The Wet’.
It’s also known as Mango Madness. The mango trees are fruiting and everyone feels VERY hot, tired, grumpy and intolerant.
It depends on whether or not we have a good ‘Wet’ but typically the heavy soaking rain will set in about Christmas and then it’s a bit cooler but still very humid.

I miss the dry, I miss the wet, I do not miss the build up. The only weather I could think that would be worse would be 24 hour darkness in the far south/north of globe.

I’ve had to dig out a summer shirt today. Dressed in my usual cold weather garb – jeans, long sleeves, polo necked shirt. Didn’t need a jumper or cardi this morning. Running around in a car without AC I noticed about 10am I was getting a bit hot.

My summer t-shirt has a slight tinge of ‘too long in the washing machine’ :(( Feral smell really; thankfully there’s only a hint of it ‘cause all my others are vacuumed packed away somewhere.

Bought some bits and pieces for the garden; including some more softdrink bottle spikes. Funny things. One of them drain almost immediately; another one on the same setting barely lets anything out. Gradually getting them in all the pots and planters that aren’t under the gravity feed system.

Yes, you really have to experience it to know just how awful it can be don’t you.
BUT …………… it IS worth it, for the rest of the time it’s paradise.

Harvesting vegie and getting those celery of yours in Pepe and some lettuces I bought the other day.

It’s starting to warm up up here which is actually a bit early this year. At the moment it’s 34.9 degrees and 61% humidity.
We’re moving into what we call ‘The Buildup’ which is very hot, increasing humidity and as time goes on some occasional storms.
It’s the buildup to ‘The Wet’.
It’s also known as Mango Madness. The mango trees are fruiting and everyone feels VERY hot, tired, grumpy and intolerant.
It depends on whether or not we have a good ‘Wet’ but typically the heavy soaking rain will set in about Christmas and then it’s a bit cooler but still very humid.

So this is not a good time for me to visit the worms then? LOL. I’m grumpy and intolerant all the time :)

Doh! I was just doing the photobucket thing…click box, go ‘generate code’, and copy the appropriate bit! It was supposed to work! I would have done better referring to the notes someone put up yonks ago on how to make pics appear with html (I printed out and filed them for easy reference) but thought I’d be clever this time and do clickable thumbnails. Funny, I’ve done them before with no problems. Must be having a dopey day.

Sorry, I had to run away before as ex arrived and had to go off and do some stuff. He came with me to buy a second hand lawn mower and then we went nosying around the house I will be renting in a month. Had another look at the vegie patches – always note things the second time you didn’t really notice the first time – I thought the vegie beds had weeds…they have COUCH!! :O Aargh!

Btw, please excuse dirty fingers and nails in the pics – I’d not long come home from a gardening job and hadn’t scrubbed my hands yet, and of course, then I couldn’t!

I have a monster PNG extravaganza planned… A good friend of mine who is a bit keen on taking photos thought a trip to PNG was in order, and he asked me to tailor make a holiday trip where he’d get to check out the diversity of this country…

So, we are starting off with a few days Barramundi fishing in the last river on the coast before it gets to Indonesia next door… the wet lands are full of deer and crocodiles, and kangaroos and swampies.

From there, we will head as far east as we can get and stand at the base of a volcano watching it go ballistic and all stupid like.

Then we head up into the Highlands on PNG to watch 10,000 singers and dancers in traditional attire perform traditional dance for the crowd. An amazing visual feast awaits the next two weeks plus a lap of Moresby ;)

yes and no, Bensbach is a very remote and expensive location to get too, although it is cheaper if you are a “local” and the Volcano is one that I have visited often. My concern is that it is blowing heaps of ash at the moment and the town and approach is a mess. We may not be able to get too close as I have in the past. And the falling ash is disgusting…

and the Goroka show is well frequented by tourists, it is one of those things you must do before you die thingos….

It’s a fake suede. Can’t afford the real stuff. Looks lovely in real life, and I’m hoping it’s warm. I realised tonight that although I won’t want or need another layer during graduation, I will when I leave the building. I’ve got some fabric left over, so I might make a wrap with a red lining. The dress looks much better on. It’s a style designed to filled ;-)

Back to gardening. Couple of weeks ago I scattered some mixed, old seeds over my new patch. Some silly bird picked up a couple and dropped them in the carrot tub. I saw them on the surface but didn’t pay any attention. Realised today that I have a pea growing in the middle of my carrots. There’s also about 1/2 dozen “somethings” come up in the last week in the main patch. They all look the same, but I can’t remember what seeds I chucked out. Might be beans? Might be radishes? Guess I’ll have to wait and see.

I woke up early this morning but refused to get out of bed…it is raining (thanks South Australia) and breezy with it…should do my sole remaining potato plant a lot of good…my tomatoes are cropping again, I really need to get that next quarter prepared and green-manured…

Supposed to rain here today and get heavier tonight. Still considering putting out seeds. Thought I might just cover them with light boards or cardboard strips.

If I left the boards in place, might give the Man some idea of where they are when he gets home in 2 weeks. If I get our house-sitter just to lift the boards and remove if there’s any germination they should be right? Yes? No?

I can’t recall the last time we got down to 17. Might have been August 2007. About 18.9 was the coldest night we had here last month…

yup, it was August of last year when it dropped to 17.7…. I can still remember the chill….

What you need is the Grand Prix back in November and back in Adelaide, that always brought some welcoming weather.

Hi Veg. I just downloaded the new Google Chrome browser yesterday, and I have a similar problem. When I click on a post it doesn’t show up as read, BUT if I move my mouse over it afterwards, the colour changes from unread to read! Maybe Safari does the same thing? (I think they run on the same engine under the hood)

Hey bon i really like Flock its a good one seem to be alright now for me i just downloaded it.

I haven’t used Flock – I just use FireFox, Opera, IE and Safari – and now Chrome – because at work I need to make sure my websites work for most people.

For developing, FF is far and away my favourite, but for just browsing – I have fallen in love with Chrome! It’s only a beta though.

I do need to find the spellcheck settings though – Chrome is using a US dictionary, so things like ‘favourite’ get underlined, which is annoying.

still weeding here in adelaide. anyone who didn’t weed 2 weeks ago is now chest deep in grass. my slasher man is coming next tuesday to do the paddock area. the house area has been mowed, hoed or sprayed and (needs doing again but) i think its under control. whew.

A lovely day here. I’ve been doing Housework (Wash my mouth out!) Went to the movies last night and saw Children of the Silk Road. Very good but a bit bloodthirsty. Pizza on the way home :)
Yesterday I fed the roses, the vegies are doing well and the weeding’s up to date :)
I might spread a bit of unfinished compost that got too wet as mulch.

I’ve got a bad throat, feels like it’s swollen and it kept me awake a lot last night. Fingers crossed it doesn’t develop further.

I got my first robot chicken from ThinkGeek last night.. trying to actually do some work, but these little chickies need lots of patting.. :)

Hi all.. quiet on the home front. For now.
We have been helping the school clean up. Hug the kids, and big luscious chocolate cake fixes everything. Giant son is home , on his pc and happy as a lark, no memory of his hulk impersonation or the destruction he caused or the people he hurt.
No school though. We won’t let him back.

I.m just back from the vets appointment with Max to check his ears and all is well, ear infection gone, now I only have a weekly ear wash stuff to massage in and all will stay well.

Puffs out chest.. I have carrot seeds up :D :D

Well ok they are so small you need a microscope to see them..but they are very evenly spaced from the seed tape, so arn’t weeds. And a few more corn seedlings up.

I got a big pack of seeds from Yates, flowers, daisys and veges, I don’t know what for, or if I won something.

Going to have a cuppa and piece of fruit cake and think where I can toss flower seeds :)

Just planted a whole heap of seeds.

Got some silverbeet & beetroot & corn seeds soaking. I’ll put those in later.

Put in some cherry toms, watermelon and zucchini near the edge of the plot. They’ll be able to hang down over the wall; hopefully out of the way.

Scattered all my celery seed in one small section. Not convinced they’re viable seeds.

Planted some more leeks. Almost tempted to ‘rope’ off the area the leeks are in. They look too much like grass at this stage.

Added some more caulis (they’re supposedly all year rounders). Planted a couple in between the current broccoli. Figure by the time they need space (they seem to be very slow) the broc should be gone. Added some more mini cabbages. Hmmm, what else? Oh, put out some more lettuce seeds. Not sure they’re viable either so scattered heaps. Some more pak choy and some carrots.

My first lot of carrots came up great. Second lot – not so good. Hopefully this lot will be better.

Gunna take some photos before Monday so I can show my dad while we’re there.

Back again, I planted out a gerbera border around the mini orchard and snail baited them. The chooks wont be let out until the gerberas are bigger and theres no bait about. I will wait until the bulb bed has died down then toss packets of flower seeds in there .
Home made pizzas for tea and while the ovens hot, making mini chocolate eclairs for afters :D

After doing the shopping this morning settled to getting my scarecrow made for the annual festival. Got it all set up and ready for the grand opening and then I found out that I had missed the judging by 4 days.

Methinks something went awry in the setting down of the rules. No matter my crow is out there for the duration anyway.

Have finally gotten around to watching my recording of Keating – quite appropriate, I think, on the eve of a State election.

I have basil in already, and no more seeds. I haven’t planned to plant onions, except spring, ‘cause apparently they don’t do well here in the sub-tropics. My last lot of spring onions never sprouted. I really must make a list and order some seeds.

I love going out in the still morning cold air . Just got back from walking Max , a short walk this time as I noticed a couple dogs without owners about..not going to risk Max getting into a fight.

I did a garden / vege bed stroll, I will have to replace silverbeet and lettuce seedlings because of earwig damage..I’ve put scrunched paper and cardboard about but the blighters still desecrate the seedlings. I’ll have to go one step further and cover the seedlings with cut off plastic bottles.
I have some cactus thingos to pot up into wire baskets and I’ll put them next to my cactus garden shelf and hanging on the fence.
Thee gave me a piece of a long cord hanging cactusy thing and it’s flowering , in a glass of water! I have another piece of a hanging cactus thingo too, a Burros tail ?? I think it’s called. It will look nice with the potted cactus on the shelf and various hanging things in baskets around it :)

I got a big lettuce box of green scraps at the grocer and feeding to chooks, I haven’t any leafy greens growing to feed them atm. Terrific recycling :D and I buy F&V from this greengrocer in return for the box of cabbage and cauli greens :)

Oh Pom, and Grassy, and others who I know say the same…thanks. We know to keep a normal life as possible , and we have our other kids , life is nomal as possible for them, the girls don’t even know what happened, nor does our grandson , we keep it all from them..at this point. Youngest daughter gave giant son ‘ the talk’ .. “ be good, stay calm and think before you go to break something” so cute, but she has no idea. Eldest daughter is the only one in the know. They have their lives and only get told of big things when they happen. We have great hobbies and wonderful friends. I have been almost crowded out by well meaning friends inviting me to do things and go places with them. In my autism list theres several other parents like me , one has a 6 yo girl worse than GS. Little slip of a girl worse than him , I can’t even imagine.
Tuesday though, all I wanted to do was run away, I opened my purse and had 15 c , not enough to jump on a plane to my sisters in brissy. I expect the worst to happen yet and already in my mind dealt with it.

Very windy here in Brisvegas. I’d like to dust for caterpillars, but probably 99% would just fly away.

I’m waiting for the cat to turn psyco. She usually goes nuts after a bit of wind.

Other than that, quiet day here. Busy shopping and packing for the big trip. Not sure if I’m more excited about graduation or two and half weeks of my dad’s cooking. Graduation is a one off event, but 2 1/2 weeks of dad’s cooking is an ongoing dream.

Put in my beetroot and silverbeet seeds. Put them out to soak last night and forgot about them. Someone moved the dish and I’m not 100% sure I planted them in the right place. Oh well. And I dropped one somewhere, so I might have a ‘stray’ come up. First lot that I’ve planted out directly. But with us being away they’re far more likely to survive that if they need tending in the hothouse.

Hello all. Missed GA but think it got recorded…

Today I have been playing in one of my vegie patches, actually in parts of the chainlinked food garden.

Anyone want some Eau de cologne mint? It has reached feral proprtions here in the damper, neglected part of the food garden which I’m starting to clear for sunflowers, sorghum and maize. I intend to also plant out some of the humungous pile of Turmeric rhizomes on hand. Anyone want some Turmeric rhizomes? – there is a limited use for it fresh and I don’t bother to dry and grind – but mainly use the foliage for fodder, mulch, windbreaks, soil stabilization – and of course the flowers are quite ornamental – altogether a very useful, plant to have around.. More suited to warmer climates, though.

My hair grows really fast and I need a trim every 3-4 weeks.. it is very wavy when it gets some length and right on top I get this one single huge curl the length of my head…Elvis would have been jealous… I was whinging about it, it won’t sit down no matter what gunk I put in it , it just springs back like a massive slinky…grandson laughed at me and said thats not a curl thats a tsunami!

Yes – I can also extract some notes from my text – as specially looked it up last night again in one of my favourite and practical references: Penny Woodward (2000) Asian Herbs & Vegetables How to identify, grow and use them in Australia. :) Leaves can be eaten fresh or cooked. Young leaves, shoots and flowers can be boiled as a vegetable. Leaves are also used for wrapping other ingredients before steaming or roasting in Burma according to text – different places = different uses. Here is a pic I found of flowers – my scribble in book says it flowered in mid-March 2005 – that might be first time I put a couple of rhizomes in. Needs a reasonable amount of water, though if that might be a problem in dry areas. Needs reasonable drainage – rots (some of mine has) in waterlogged soils. Dies down in winter to magically and quickly starting to push up lovely big leaves (about now) once spoil warms up a bit.

I’m getting organized (still here) for the summer crops. This cold thingy has put me back a few days.

With all this soaking rain, going to get out into the “Friendship Garden” this coming week. Even if it’s 30 mins a day……better than looking and thinking…“I need to think more kind thoughts about this area” just get in and do it.

Just cleaned out the photo bucket folders.

Lots of folders were removed as folks have either moved on….learnt how to do the PB for themselves or started up a blog.

No i don’t work too hard most of the time, just when it’s time to go you have to really give it.
It can be dangerous. I try and make it safe as i can.
I guess if everyone just torched their cars and turned off all the power and we reverted to subsistence life then i could just go home. However, it’s fun.

Coffee supply has ended on a happy note, but thats ok I found another and it is just beautiful .. hubbys filled the hopper with it and thrown the packet so I don’t know the name of it until I get another.. youngest daughter got it from her work, an import/ export place.

I went up the Qantas building in Sydney when i was a kid, while it was being built. My mates uncle drove a crane up there.
About 40 floors in the lift, then about 10 by stairs and then 3 floors of ladders. When we came out onto the top i went to jelly and had to come down. Took about an hour to settle again.
Yet i can happily leap out of a plane. Go fihure!

I had a pet huntsman once in one of those bug catchers..he didn’t come into the kitchen for weeks lol. I let it go and now whenever he see’s one he call’s to me “your friends are here” …

I’m just about ready for bed. I’d read, but I’m out of books. Well, I’ve got one – for the plane tomorrow. Went to the library on Wed and thought “3 books ought to do”. SILLY GIRL! Went to the library yesterday and thought “3 books ought to do”. SILLY GIRL. Finished two of them before I went to bed last night :-(

I have started the last one, but I daren’t take it to bed with me. I’ll either finish it and have nothing for the plane tomorrow; or get half way through and forget it in the morning rush.

Glad I was talking to you all. The grey water system’s been turned over to the drain because of all the rain. The housesitter (and The Man) wouldn’t have known to turn it back on and my garden would have carked it before I got home.

I possibly won’t get online much while we’re away. The two families we’re staying with in Perth aren’t very techno savvy, so might have to wait til Adelaide. Will post grad photos :-))

True story …………. if you buy spring onions from the supermarket, cut off the roots and plant them pronto they will grow very well.

Took about an hour to settle again.
Yet i can happily leap out of a plane. Go fihure!

well i saw the film ‘Bruge” for father’s day. one of the most memorable funny films i’ve seen. a lot of swearing and slaughter but its a very original story of two irish hit men waiting in historic Bruge (in Belgium) for their next orders.

We had a great day in the yard today. Made a brand new garden behind the fernery, under the Melaleucas and the various shrubs etc. We planted lots of shade loving plants and a couple of azaleas in it. Still have lots of maidenhairs and ferns to go in but that will have to wait for another day.

It wasn’t till we were having smoko this arvo that it suddenly dawned on me that we had constructed this garden outside the fenced house pad and now obviously open to any wildlife that fancies a feast on the new plants. How could I do that? It never crossed my mind when we planned it. Too late now. We will have to play it by ear from here on.

I went up the Qantas building in Sydney when i was a kid, while it was being built. My mates uncle drove a crane up there.
About 40 floors in the lift, then about 10 by stairs and then 3 floors of ladders. When we came out onto the top i went to jelly and had to come down. Took about an hour to settle again.
Yet i can happily leap out of a plane. Go fihure!

Mr BG is the same, can’t cope with heights but is OK in planes (although I don’t think he wants to jump out of one.) He reckons it is edges that he is afraid of: cliff edges, edges of balconies or stair wells. He just freezes and his knees go to jelly. There have been times driving in the car when he has come around a corner to be confronted with open views as the road winds around a mountain or something. He just stops where he is and can’t go any further.

I’ve been lounging about still in my dressing gown, lazy bones me this morn , I’m normally up and attem early.

I’m going to pick up below items from freecycle in a couple hours. I can sure use more pots to fill with scrunched paper ,to aid my earwig collection :P

Not sure about the seed trays though given my luck , or lack of it ,with seed raising lol. Perhaps someone here might be able to tell me if the seeds trays will make it any easier..plus I can pass on to youse any of the little pots for cuttings ect.

Also 3 trays that take about 200 seeds each. These are used in market
gardening automatic planters. Once the seeds have sprouted it’s very easy to

it is interesting because her whole backyard (approx 22m x 14m) is veges. it was builders rubble, weed mat, bark chips. by this summer the whole thing will be productive and it all cost $150 (plus what ever she recently spent on seed). she’s also got 8 fruit trees in big pots which she can take with her – because shes a tenant.

Longy’s four beds raised 400mm sound good – altho’ 200-300 is enough IMHO.
The aging factor is something i know well but long handled hoes and rakes do overcome bending to a large extent.
However if you can think of an easy way for the aged to turn compost heaps let me know LOL.

I figure one way is to inject air thru pipes with holes that are through the heap.
Another is to use those big plastic bins they have vegies in and use a 12v boat winch to raise and tumble into the next bin. Using a frame over the bins for support. Whaddya reckon?

ummm – could be high energy compost.
one old bloke on vasili’s garden spread the compost out thinly and raked it- he claimed it broke down in 2 weeks. raking the top of compost does aerate and mix – so its possible.
alternatively we could try to keep fit – or pay the younguns to do it for us.

Oh I don’t know! I saw those same sorts of clouds and at those angles and I didn’t have to jump outside the plane to see them. As a matter of fact I love clouds specially when you can look at them at eye level or from above and there is less chance of dying doing it that way too.

Actually Bubba, it’s like riding a motorcycle with the throttle wound fully open.
Except you don’t have a helmet, (or a motorcycle). The speed is the same.
The sensation is similar.

Me neither…….. if was was meant to have my feet off the ground…would have been born with a stool attached to my feet.

Evening green ones, I picked up the pots on offer from freecycle and theres a dozen or so really big ones too :) Theres many small ones and if anyone wants any just yell out, I’ll take some to Thee’s next meet up too.

I got a newsletter from my fave nursery ( plants plus grevillea nursery ) and it’s got all the new garden school dates in, one on greywater and detergent use in the garden, I will go to, and another on growing fab tomatoes..I’ll go to that one too, there’s givaways they’re both free.

Another on clay soil sounds really interesting , will most likely attend that one too. And yet another on minamising water use for maximum growth.

Relaxing now with a big mug of tea and a cupcake :)

2. daughter went skydiving this year and loved it. She said it was more scary going up in the plane thinking about it than it was to actually do it. She jumped in harness attached to an experienced skydiver.

Good morning all :)

Found 10 little ducklings out and about with clucky duck Doreen this morning! She sat herself on 10 eggs and has hatched every one of them! :D

three of my bantams are beginning to look clucky altho’ – can a chook be half clucky ? – they are sitting for two hours and then getting up and wandering around.

ms pepe and i went to a seminar on frogs last night.
did you know that the eastern banjo (pobblebonk?) frog lives for 15 years ?
its frog census time – and we can go recording with a group this coming friday night.
somehow i think its still a bit cold to get many frogs coming out at night – but we will see…

Hey Pepe, I was just looking at the frog census page. I hope you do get to record them :)
I was loong about my pond yesterday and the frogs are not there , but theres left over egg sac jelly stuff deep inside the leaves of water iris thats in there, where the fish can’t get to.
I reckon I will hear them again this summer :)

i heard a few ‘bonks’ last night but nothing like the din we get when they are all out.
you will get them – they are very good breeders.
i think our two places have similar frogs – pobblebond – a large ground dweller called the painted frog – a smaller one ? – a tree frog and one other.
if i go to the census i might actually remember their names (and sounds).
