Subject: Security Camera Resolution

I’m about to buy a home security setup and wondering if anyone here has any experience with them.

Mainly there is a fair price difference between 480 lpi and 700 lpi. Is this resolution difference much in real quality?

Does the IR motion detection really work well and is it legible?

Thanks for any information.

My cousin got a visit from his neighbour this week, seems the neighbour is the head of the adelaide CIB and his home security camera caught me pulling up outside cousins house and swapping number plates on the ute, lol.

When I went back yesterday, I could see the red lights on the cameras, 4 of them across the front of his house,

Sorry, no expert, all I can comment is that the security camera footage I’ve seen on TV is abysmal. I’d go for the best resolution you can get, even if that means reducing the frame-rate.

My outside IR motion sensor lights work some of the time. I’ve noticed that old-style IR sensors would degrade rapidly with age.

Have a look at the 107 CCTV & Surveillance Cameras that Jaycar is offering – then buy something better and cheaper through the web.

Yep, I’m mostly looking through eBay. The b&m stores are about 3 times the price for equivalent. Just trying to make sure I don’t buy something which is crap.

It is worth noting that everybody carries a mobile phone with them, and every mobile phone has a unique bluetooth ID that is easily triangulated with cheap hardware and software.

It may be as useful as tracking/identifying people around your home as a camera is.

Negative feedback from a buyer on eBay:

I burned your product all the lantern and my Monroe home I drown you

pmsl.

My BIL has a bunch of cameras around his place and gets an alert to his phone when someone enters the property (usually me picking up the dog for hydro or the dogs escaping into the front yard). His resolution is 700. They’re very happy with their system; it cost a bundle at the time but those sorts of systems have really come down in price lately. I saw Aldi have some systems for very affordable prices… if you’re looking for something relatively simples, of course.

Thanks DA. Yeah, I went for the 700, it was really only $50 or so difference, 4 cameras and all the other fruit.Really only need max of 2 cameras to cover a carport, but we’ll see.
