Alice In Chains – Would

Alice in Chains is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1987 by guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell and original lead vocalist Layne Staley. The initial lineup was rounded out by drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Starr, who was replaced in 1993 by Mike Inez.

Although widely associated with grunge music, the band’s sound incorporates heavy metal and acoustic elements. Since its formation, Alice in Chains has released five studio albums, three EPs, two live albums, four compilations, and two DVDs. The band is known for its distinctive vocal style, which often included the harmonized vocals of Staley and Cantrell.

Alice in Chains rose to international fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, along with other Seattle bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. The band was one of the most successful music acts of the 1990s, selling over 20 million albums worldwide, and over 14 million in the US alone. In 1992, the band released their album Dirt, which was critically acclaimed and has been certified quadruple platinum. The band also achieved two No. 1 Billboard 200 releases, 14 top ten songs on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and nine Grammy Award nominations.

Although never officially disbanding, Alice in Chains was plagued by extended inactivity from 1996 onwards due to Staley’s substance abuse, which resulted in his death in 2002. The band reunited in 2005 with new lead vocalist William DuVall and released their fourth studio album, Black Gives Way to Blue, in 2009. The album was a success, receiving gold certification by the RIAA in 2010. Black Gives Way to Blue was followed four years later by The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here

Uberbyte – Under The Cross

This voodoo has led you astray
Forsake this inbred age
Slaughter the holy cow
Where is your God now ?
My eyes betray me
My eyes betray me
All this we lost
Under the cross
200 years
Drowning in tears

Praise him, as Sodom burns
Fire shall inherit the earth
Open the seventh seal
His power.
Revealed
You lied to take control
You lied to make me feel whole
You lied to save my soul

You say, God will scourge the obscene
Through hate he’ll render us clean
Your faith, a rock unto him
What good did he ever bring ?
The weak shall suffer
The weak shall suffer
Always the same,
It’s always the same
Purge and repeat,
Die at his feet

Hey now, letters burning by my bed for you
Hey now, I can feel my instincts here for you
Hey now, by my bed for you
Hey now, hey now

Oh, you know it is frightening
Oh, you know it’s like lightning
Hey now, now

Hey now, letters burning by my bed for you
Hey now, leave it to the wayside like you do
For you, imagination calling mirrors for you
Hey now, hey now

Oh, you know it is frightening

London Grammar – Stay Awake

I am the blank page before you
I am the fine idea you crave
I live and breathe under the moon
And when you cross that bridge
I’ll come find you

Stay awake with me
You know I can’t just let you be
Stay awake with me
Take your hand and come and find me

I don’t have a skin like you do
To keep it all in like you do
I don’t have a soul like you
The only one I have
Is the one I stole from you

Stay awake with me
You know I can’t just let you be
Stay awake with me
Take your hand and come and find me

Stay awake with me
You know I can’t just let you be
Stay awake with me
Take your hand and come and find me

London Grammar – Wasting My Young Years

You crossed this line
Do you find it hard to sit with me tonight?
I’ve walked these miles
But I’ve walked them straight lined
You’ll never know what it’s like to be
Fine

I’m wasting my young years
It doesn’t matter if
I’m chasing old ideas
It doesn’t matter if

Maybe, we are, we are
Maybe I’m wasting my young years
Maybe, we are, we are
Maybe I’m wasting my young years

Don’t you know that it’s only fear?
I wouldn’t worry, you have all your life
I’ve heard it takes some time to get it right

I’m wasting my young years
It doesn’t matter if
I’m chasing old ideas
It doesn’t matter if

Maybe, we are, we are
Maybe I’m wasting my young years
Maybe, we are, we are
Maybe I’m wasting my young years

I don’t know what you are
Don’t leave me hanging on
Don’t know what you are
Don’t leave me hanging on

Rishloo – Alchemy Alice

All the same
I Chased the Cheshire looked for all the same relief
And further more
I dug in further more than you can bury deep, it’s so
Sad to see
So glad you found your own way out
Arraign your head with crowns invisible, high
Remember why you’re here, is to inspire

For what it’s worth
It’s hollow pantomiming what’s it worth to you
To be sure
Lick the needle to be sure you’re truly through, it’s so
Sad to see
So glad you found your own way out
Arraign your head with crowns invisible, high
Remember why you’re here, is to conspire

Apart from all of these still waves
The fissures open to align
Have some water, friend, you’re looking pale
This wasn’t part of the design
Beware the storm, avoid the frozen rain
Ash the passing dusty collar
Inserting spikes for their embrace
Forgetting why you’re here, is to inspire

Bleeding, it’s how they found us, so responsive, draining out across the floor
Seeping through the chasm, frail and wanting, needing nothing less than more
Curtain, vague illusions from the sideshow to dispel the fantasy
Bleeding, ever bleeding, always bleeding ‘till the vein runs dry

Here, take this nail and push it inside in fuckin’ hatter
You’ll feel so much better as this nerve dies
In true Alice fashion
Drive out the centering

City & Colour – Sleeping Sickness (Live at the Bravo Concert Hall)

City and Colour is the recording alias for Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green, who was also the guitarist and vocalist of the now defunct post-hardcore band Alexisonfire from 2001 to 2012. He plays melodic acoustic and folk music and is often accompanied by a rotating number of Canadian indie rock musicians, such as Daniel Romano and Spencer Burton of Attack in Black. The name City and Colour comes from his own name: Dallas, a city, and Green, a colour. His reasoning for the name was that he felt queasy “putting the album out under the name Dallas Green”. Green said that he had been writing material since he was around the age of 14. Regarding the songs released on his first album, Sometimes, Green said that he had been writing material for it as early as when he was 16 years old, and finished writing songs for it in 2005.

I’m not listening to anything. I was listening to Bach while hanging some pictures until it got too annoying ‘cos I was trying to concentrate and spilling nails everywhere and getting the pitchers misaligned and scratching a frame and having to pull out nails and bang them in again and then taking ages to straighten the pictures and get them to stay straight with blutak on the back of the frames.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Slim

“Morris Holt (August 7, 1937 – February 21, 2013), known as Magic Slim, was an American blues singer and guitarist. Born at Torrance, near Grenada, Mississippi, the son of sharecroppers, he followed blues greats such as Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf to Chicago, developing his own place in the Chicago blues scene….

Magic Slim was forced to give up playing the piano when he lost his little finger in a cotton gin mishap. He moved first to nearby Grenada. He first came to Chicago in 1955 with his friend and mentor Magic Sam. The elder Magic (Sam) let the younger Magic (Slim) play bass with his band and gave him his nickname.

At first Slim was not rated very highly by his peers. He returned to Mississippi to work and got his younger brother Nick interested in playing bass. By 1965 he was back in Chicago and in 1970 Nick joined him in his group, the Teardrops. They played in the dim, smoke-filled juke joints popular in Chicago in the 1970s on bandstands barely large enough to hold the band.”

Suede – We Are The Pigs

Suede are an English alternative rock band from London, formed in 1989. The group’s most prominent early line-up was Brett Anderson (singer), Bernard Butler (guitarist), Mat Osman (bass guitarist) and Simon Gilbert (drummer). By 1992, Suede were described as “The Best New Band in Britain”, and attracted much attention from the British music press. The following year their debut album Suede, went to the top of the charts by becoming the fastest-selling debut album in almost ten years. The album won the Mercury Music Prize and helped foster Britpop as a musical genre. However, the band’s lush follow-up, Dog Man Star (1994), showed Suede distancing itself from its Britpop peers. Although it is often regarded as the band’s masterpiece, the recording sessions for Dog Man Star were fraught with difficulty, and ended with Butler departing the band after confrontations with Anderson and musical differences with the rest of the band. Its sales suffered due to these events, however it was met with a generally enthusiastic reception on release and has, over time been lauded with universal acclaim from critics.

Their 2007 debut album, Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters, drew widespread acclaim from critics, who noted Graham’s thick Scottish accent and MacFarlane’s dense sonic walls of shoegazing guitar and wheezing accordion. The Twilight Sad’s notoriously loud live performances have been described as “completely ear-splitting,” and the band toured for the album across Europe and the United States throughout 2007 and 2008. Sessions inspired by stripped-down and reworked live performances yielded the 2008 mini-album, Here, It Never Snowed. Afterwards It Did.

Their second album, Forget the Night Ahead, marked a shift in the band’s direction; lyrically more personal and musically darker and more streamlined, it was released in 2009 to further acclaim. Recording sessions for the album also produced the mid-2010 release The Wrong Car, which followed the departure of founding bassist Craig Orzel in February 2010. The Twilight Sad’s third album, No One Can Ever Know, was released in February 2012 and marked another stylistic shift, with the band citing industrial music and krautrock influences for a darker, sparser sound. The band’s fourth album, entitled Nobody Wants to Be Here and Nobody Wants to Leave, was released in late October 2014 to universally positive reviews.

The band describes their sound as “folk with layers of noise,” and music critics have described the band as “perennially unhappy” and “a band that inject some real emotion and dynamic excitement into a comparatively standard template.”[

I heard some of them on one of my satellite TV provider’s radio stations and looked them up on the net. Aren’t, at least some, of their songs based on a comic book series written by one of their members?
