biology / computer/ science

with the same format , I don’t see the need for a multitude of forums, how would you ever read them all ?

in fact all if the divisions do the very opposite , it isolates formers because you’ll have so few people in each forum

fffsforums has a VBT (View By Time) panel on the left (just like here) that shows every post in every forum, so you don’t have to miss a thing.

The six forums just help to stop everything from being too mushed together. If consensus decided that three (or some other number) would be better then that would be fine too.

I’d be using the old format of the forums

lets put it this way, one if the attractions of the old site was its simplicity , you only had three forums , within each forum despite it servicing the entire population it never reached capacity , there simply wasn’t that many people interested in discussing the subjects of interest

if the forum ever did reach capacity you’d just add another , for example you might have “ the straw man forum” and an “ad hominem” forum as an spill over from the straw man forum

I wouldn’t have any more than three to start with

stick with the black and white screen

you could always team up with the person who runs this forum and see what it would take to develop it? focus and concentrate your efforts with an existing forum rather than create another ?

If you tried from a different computer and had the same problem then the issue may be the DNS server that you are using. Is your work computer connecting through the same ISP as your home computer? If your ISP’s DNS cache is stale then you might just have to wait until the DNS server decides to update. That sort of problem should just resolve itself in a short period of time. Or you could change the DNS settings in your browser to bypass this problem. Google’s DNS servers are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (You may need to seek the assistance of a local geek to sort this out).

The fffsforum format was chosen so that a few useful features could be easily added. Each user gets a ‘Gallery’ so that they can easily upload and use images in their posts. Each user gets a blog to use if they choose. And if any user felt sufficiently inspired then they could redesign the interface.

I have setup a redirect on the old server so that the ‘being updated’ page now takes you to the new address. This should fix the problem regardless of the DNS status.
