What goes on here then?
Nup….just “This site is being updated” as it’s been for some days now.
Try putting this in:
http://fffsforums.com/posting.php?mode=reply&f=3&t=570
Same…being updated…
works fine here..
but why do we need both here and there?
I wish we still had Nick’s place, that was nice and cozy.
I may be lying
sometimes it’s better to let the past stay in the past.
It works from here.
Why is it so hard to find nice Contact paper??
Anyone got any ideas why I’m not seeing it?
Have you tried clearing your cache?
I’ve tried typing the address in up the top. Still don’t get an operating forum.
>I’ve tried typing the address in up the top. Still don’t get an operating forum
if that’s the cobberwebs.com forum and same address you’re talking, works here, though didn’t try logging in….
…checked login works too

Not cobberwebs. fffsforums.com.
I think I tried from work today too. Sill got the being updated page. I thought maybe the old link I had was wrong. That’s why I typed in the address.
I’ve been getting the being updated page for several days now.
working here ok.

Well that’s no help!
Have I got the right address?
http://
+ cobberwebs.com
gets you into homepage then the link takes you where you want to go
works here anyway
I also Googled it and followed links from there. Still keep getting forum being updated.
Didn’t they leave cobberwebs ages ago?
i’ve gone in here five times to test it in last fifteen minutes, works every time….
http://cobberwebs.com/

Well, it’s puzzling.
try closing your browser and reopening it. then try the address again.
Cleared cookies and cache. Still no good.
Browser closed, reopened. Still no joy.
Could someone who can get in please see if fsm has any ideas?
>Well, it’s puzzling.
just post your login handle here and password and i’ll test it for you, everyone else can test it too
;) bein’ silly
better get out of here before disrepute finds me
It’s not that I can’t log in….I can’t even get that far. The page just loads with a message that it is being updated.
What is this forum?
it is the sssf forum that fish slapping maniac set up after nicks nose dived.
Buffy, do you have CCleaner?

I wonder if Tell Someone Who Cares has taken on a zombie life of its own as a bastion of unmoderated freedom since I have locked myself out years ago.

that’s the science forum bit.
maybe you are coming from a range of addresses that has been blocked
Boris said:
i tried with IE and no probs.see if this opens up in this forums pane.
That opens at the front page, but says
“Information
This site is being updated…”
That’s what I get all the time. There is no listing of the sections and when I switch to full style (or whatever it is) there is nothing in the view by time .
sibeen said:

No. What does that do and why would it be appropriate?
Boris said:

Same result.
I just prefer this forum
has same format as the proper forum
is not bogged down with countless forums
dunno.
long shot but i experienced a similar prob a little while ago, was to do with certificates. i had inadvertantly refused one so that page wouldn’t load. they are located in tools>internet options>content.
that is for IE, though my prob was using opera.
tried my IE browser security and privacy settings both on highest (usually set medium), couldn’t replicate what you get but cobberwebs let me in but not everything loaded, but the science link wouldn’t let me in there at all.

Yeah forums with squillions of subdivisions give me the squitts, it doesn’t make searching easier.
That forum may just be the backup(Holiday) forum for when this one goes on holidays.
Only for those luddites that don’t facebook, of course.

G’day Buffy. You have not been blocked from the forums. Your browser may have a problem. Try a different browser to see if that is causing the issue.

You can search here???
I’d go for the same format as the old forums
biology / computer/ science
with the same format , I don’t see the need for a multitude of forums, how would you ever read them all ?
in fact all if the divisions do the very opposite , it isolates formers because you’ll have so few people in each forum
>it isolates formers because you’ll have so few people in each forum
you’d be needing an early night, wookie.

fffsforums has a VBT (View By Time) panel on the left (just like here) that shows every post in every forum, so you don’t have to miss a thing.
The six forums just help to stop everything from being too mushed together. If consensus decided that three (or some other number) would be better then that would be fine too.
I’d be using the old format of the forums
lets put it this way, one if the attractions of the old site was its simplicity , you only had three forums , within each forum despite it servicing the entire population it never reached capacity , there simply wasn’t that many people interested in discussing the subjects of interest
if the forum ever did reach capacity you’d just add another , for example you might have “ the straw man forum” and an “ad hominem” forum as an spill over from the straw man forum
I wouldn’t have any more than three to start with
stick with the black and white screen
you could always team up with the person who runs this forum and see what it would take to develop it? focus and concentrate your efforts with an existing forum rather than create another ?

If you tried from a different computer and had the same problem then the issue may be the DNS server that you are using. Is your work computer connecting through the same ISP as your home computer? If your ISP’s DNS cache is stale then you might just have to wait until the DNS server decides to update. That sort of problem should just resolve itself in a short period of time. Or you could change the DNS settings in your browser to bypass this problem. Google’s DNS servers are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (You may need to seek the assistance of a local geek to sort this out).
glow worm used to be a whizz on the computer as I remember

The fffsforum format was chosen so that a few useful features could be easily added. Each user gets a ‘Gallery’ so that they can easily upload and use images in their posts. Each user gets a blog to use if they choose. And if any user felt sufficiently inspired then they could redesign the interface.

I have setup a redirect on the old server so that the ‘being updated’ page now takes you to the new address. This should fix the problem regardless of the DNS status.

Whatever you did there….it’s worked. Thanks.
And working from the Next G dongle at work also. And from here it does the proper page for entering a post too. Who knows what the problem was. Maybe BigPond was having a Christmas party out the back somewhere.
