Congratulations to DA and Mr Mutant on the new bub.
I’d still like a bit more information.
eg:
weight
height
sex
name
was it a virgin birth
etc
Well done Mr Mutant
Congratulations DA, I knew you could do it :) And a warm welcome to the infant Mutant.
Well, that’s the best news I’ve heard for a while :D Good work, DA and congratulations to you and mr Mutant.
you still in hospital or did they release you?
Lovely news!
Congratulations xxx

Oh, despite my curmudgeonly ways, I agree with that.
I will still stand by by my previous statement, it’s also the scariest. Having to take a 13 month old to the hospital, careening there in a car, it’s not fun. Being told off for doing so, “ you should have called an ambulance” is also not on the fun side of the ledger.
Parenthood is grouse, no doubt about that. It’s also like a leap into the unknown :)
i much prefer other peoples kids. all the fun and no responsibility. and they take them home with them when they leave.

Yes, there’s nothing like a newborn baby to make you realise what is important. Nothing else matters as you really look outside of yourself at the little creature you made, which equals “…awesome as fuck” to quote DV.
What I found amusing in regards to DA giving birth yesterday was the episode of Housos on last night was Shazza and Dazza’s attempt to get Shazza to the hospital to give birth, I hope DA’s experience was easier than theirs.

The birthing tale is uninteresting except for the anaesthetist having to change his shoes because things got a bit messy. Also, epidurals Rock.

How was it looking into bub’s eyes for the first time DA?
The conventional wisdom AFAIK is that newborns have quite poor vision.
After my son’s caesar birth I went to see him in the NIC, leant down next to him and looked him in the eyes. I swear that he focused hard on my eyes and WOW!!Ian said:

AFAIK their vision focuses at about 200mm.
Yeah. I would have been 2 – 300mm away.
After 30 mins or so (can’t be sure) his sight was noticeably fairly unfocused.

Possibly, but I don’t think so. I reckon his mind was fairly blown by the whole experience, as was mine.

Here’s a song by Patti Smith about her baby sister.
Patti Smith – Kimberly
[no video, just a single album cover image]
written by Patti Smith, Allen Lanier, and Ivan Kral.
The wall is high, the black barn,
The babe in my arms in her swaddling clothes
And I know soon that the sky will split
And the planets will shift,
Balls of jade will drop and existence will stop.
Little sister, the sky is falling, I don’t mind, I don’t mind.
Little sister, the fates are calling on you.
Ah, here I stand again in this old ‘lectric whirlwind,
The sea rushes up my knees like flame
And I feel like just some misplaced Joan Of Arc
And the cause is you lookin’ up at me.
Oh baby, I remember when you were born,
It was dawn and the storm settled in my belly
And I rolled in the grass and I spit out the gas
And I lit a match and the void went flash
And the sky split and the planets hit,
Balls of jade dropped and existence stopped, stopped, stop, stop.
Little sister, the sky is falling, I don’t mind, I don’t mind.
Little sister, the fates are calling on you.
I was goin’ crazy, so crazy I knew I could break through with you,
So with one hand I rocked you and with one heart I reached for you.
Ah, I knew your youth was for the takin’, fire on a mental plane,
So I ran through the fields as the bats with their baby vein faces
Burst from the barn and flames in a violent violet sky,
And I fell on my knees and pressed you against me.
Your soul was like a network of spittle,
Like glass balls movin’ in like cold streams of logic,
And I prayed as the lightning attacked
That something will make it go crack, something will make it go crack,
Something will make it go crack, something will make it go crack.
The palm trees fall into the sea,
It doesn’t matter much to me
As long as you’re safe, Kimberly.
And I can gaze deep
Into your starry eyes, baby, looking deep in your eyes, baby,
Looking deep in your eyes, baby, looking deep in your eyes, baby,
Into your starry eyes, oh.
Oh, in your starry eyes, baby,
Looking deep in your eyes, baby, looking deep in your eyes, baby, oh.
Oh, looking deep in your eyes, baby,
Into your starry eyes, baby, looking deep in your eyes, baby
What did the little sproglette weigh?
