I found this rather interesting.
Vote compass

Apparently I’m less of a radical hippy than I thought. I must be getting old.
I’m not sure about where it puts me in the political landscape though. The nature of the questions don’t allow for enough greyness.

As an example there’s a question about medical use of Cannabis. I’m not at all in favour of products that are lacking in credible scientific evidence of efficacy for medical treatment. A simple answer to the question puts me deep into conservative territory. I am in favour of legalise, regulate and tax the living snot out of the most used drug in Australia (after alcohol). Mucking around with the medical argument is simply using a furphy to dodge around the real issues. If I was offered a more relevant question, I’d be in the raving radical left.

Obviously it’s not designed to provide anything more than a generalisation, but I’m interested to know how many people feel that it accurately represents their views. Even if you are unfortunate enough to not live in Queensland, it still provides an interesting assessment of where you may fit politically.

Of course, these tests always rely on debatable assessments as to whether a particular stance on a particular issue should be regarded as progressive or conservative.

For example: “All immigrants can retain their cultural values without being any less Australian.” To agree with that would presumably be counted as progressive, to disagree conservative, even if we’re talking about immigrants with extremely conservative cultural values.

It’s too heavily Qld based for me, even though I used to live there. It should have an “I don’t care about this issue” button on all questions.
