Subject: Youtube Settings

I’ve noticed recently when I select a video, it starts to play automatically.

This never used to happen until about a month ago, Is there any way to stop this?
It doesn’t matter if I’m logged in or not, plus I can’t see any settings for this when I am logged in.

How do I stop utube videos from starting automatically?

Hmm, thanks, I’m using Chrome as have been for at least 18mnths.
It never used to do this with Chrome and only started happening recently, so maybe it is something to do with one of the Chrome updates which also happen automatically.

It’s annoying, this utube autoplay

It may not be your browser’s fault – YouTube make minor changes to their interface quite frequently, primarily to discourage people from downloading videos. When those changes happen browsers also need to be updated. Of course, the people who write YouTube downloaders soon update their software, too, so it’s all a bit silly.

FWIW, I often use a Python program youtube-dl to download YouTube clips (and some other videos) via the command line. It has a simple option to update itself and it tends to be pretty good at keeping up with YouTube changes.

I don’t find it annoying on youtube. I find it annoying when I look up a website and an unrelated advertisement video automatically starts – darn annoying, especially at times when my ISP deems that I only have “dialup” speed.

There’s a button on the right hand side above the “next videos” that you click to stop automatic playing.
