Gerry’s house is one of the Brisbane ones open for $5.

When it’s on the open garden scheme it costs $55 and numbers are very limited.

Not Gerry with the hyphen in his name?

Yes – are you going Bubba – if you are well enough – it is only next weekend – and if so what day? I wonder if it is accessible by train? I would love to catch up with you – and when I last looked the red plumbago plant I propagated as promised you ages ago was in flower.

I’m interested in obtaining some of Bellis’s (heirloom) seeds and maybe other plant bits so hope that there might be have some available for distribution – I could always ask anyway couldn’t I :)

Pasting some more details so I don’t have to open site to check each time:

*Sustainable House Day 2008
Saturday 13th & Sunday 14 September
10am to 4pm

Check out these great sustainable houses opening in your neighbourhood!

$5 per person per house or $10 a family,
funds raised go towards running the event.

While I am interested in the sustainable house I am much more interested in the gardening/permaculture side of things – I already have solar hot water supply, skylights, water tanks, downpipe diverters etc – but probably could do with some insulation in the roof cavity and cut down/turn off some electrical appliances.
haven’t has d an outing for a long while – and toying with idea of visiting Nielsens Native Nursery too – so forget the train access question above.

I don’t know how far it is from the station. I’ll have to consult with MrBL about when but it’ll probably be Sunday. Saturday is the only day he’s allowed to work on our renovations.

Any definite plans yet, Bubba. I have a 50th Birthday bbq invite from a friend ( her hubby is the birthday person) for Upper Coomera on Sunday. It is for the lunchtime rather than evening- which is a slight detour off the M1 on the way to Brissy – am still thinking about the logistics of trying to do both. As I was there all afternoon yesterday helping with some weeding and pruning and Win -Win grin brought home a ute load of horse poo that she had been stockpiling for me at the front entrance to the acreage property, I ruled out going to Wynnum tomorrow :). May not go anywhere at all on Sun either back is a bit cranky from dealing with the horse poo yesterday and today – not that I mind when there is something to show for it!

It’ll have to be Sunday for us but we’re flexible on times.

I kinda wish I was going but we’re just content to stick around home for a while. Over travelled of late. Home sweet home.

yep – blobbing out at home is often the most desirable option. LOL.

I do too much of it! After all there really is no place I’d rather be! But lately I have been worse than usual and have several appointments -preventative health things, breastscreen, eye test, dental checkup – cat vaccinations – for a start that are now overdue – some I actually had appointments for, postponed then later cancelled…

But I now have a tentative plan to leave reasonably early in the morning call in at Coomera then aim to be at Bellis at or shortly after opening at 10am. Whereis estimates an about an hour’s travel time from my friend’s place – longer than I expected. Website indicates that Southeast Qld houses open Sunday only anyway? – I didn’t pick that up earlier.

Do you want to try and meet?

Yes – If I make the commitment then I won’t be so tempted to renege! Seriously, would like to catch up with you Bubba and hand over the plant that has your name on it – and anything else in that I might be able to supply bits or seeds of. Is there anything on your wish list that I might help out wish in the plant line – on the offchance that I can supply :P

Are you planning on visiting any of the other houses, Bubba? I do hope we can see the garden at Jerry’s place…

Just the Plumbago will be lovely thanks. I’ve got some Squash Delicata seeds if you still want them.

We’ll just be going to Jerry’s. So is it 10am or there abouts?

Yes – that’s my plan at the moment. Yes please to the squash seeds too.

I can’t raise my friend on a phone via tonight – home phone seems to be on fax and had to leave message on mobile – hope everything is OK…sent email but she may not check that.

Well I went, I saw and was reasonably interested.

Really the best part was the technical stuff but I left that mainly to MrBL. He’s the one that’ll be setting our new place up one day, we hope.

Jerry’s got a lot of variety in the vege department but to be honest I’ve seen other private gardens that were just as good if not better. He’s got his share of ratty looking plants too, which is comforting. LOL

Met up with Cackles and swapped some Squash Delicata seeds for a Pink Plumbago that she’d started for me. Ta Cackles. :) I think I got the best end of the deal. LOL

Lovely to see you again, Bubba. Sincere apologies for being so late and please pass these to hubby and son. Hope the eggs so some way towards forgiveness…

I apparently “stayed longer than anyone else today” or so I was told on the way out. Gave up waiting the extra 40 mins for the 2nd, non-gardening talk – it was so hot and muggy in the back area, no shade trees at all! I took 9 pics – they are not edited – not that much could be done anyway, midday not being best time for taking them and not being able to step back to get any broader angle. Should hhave taken overview from top of choko vine- clad back steps I suppose.

Gee Cackles, it looks very green…looks u-beaut for something that’s on tough water restrictions…

If he’s not on a hill, I suppose it would be very hot and muggy…good ol’ Brisbane…

Was this Jerry double-barrelled’s place, or some other house (have not really followed this thread)…? I believe Jerry umm-umm has converted large parts of under his house to an equipment area for his recycling…couldn’t do that now with these slab houses and small blocks…but it’s a start…

Yep that’s the one. A small block fronting a railway line, not far from a creek called Bellis 56 Daisy St Wynnum if later you are interested in Googling and links given above go to Jerry’s blog and a lot more info – some of which has already been on ABC’s gardening Australia TV program…( Psst – just quietly I like my place better and think he has a bit to learn about sub-Tropical gardening too as in creating a pleasant place to spent time in…) What – no mango tree?? lol. I grant that there is hardly room but the absence of shade trees was something that struck me.
