I was wondering about landing in a methane lake, so I wikied…

Huygens was an atmospheric entry probe that landed successfully on Saturn’s moon Titan in 2005. Built and operated by the European Space Agency (ESA), it was part of the Cassini–Huygens mission and became the first spacecraft ever to land on Titan. The probe was named after the Dutch 17th-century astronomer Christiaan Huygens, who discovered Titan in 1655.

The combined Cassini–Huygens spacecraft was launched from Earth on October 15, 1997. Huygens separated from the Cassini orbiter on December 25, 2004, and landed on Titan on January 14, 2005 near the Xanadu region. This was the first landing ever accomplished in the outer Solar System. It touched down on land, although the possibility that it would touch down in an ocean was also taken into account in its design. The probe was designed to gather data for a few hours in the atmosphere, and possibly a short time at the surface. It continued to send data for about 90 minutes after touchdown. It remains the most distant landing of any man-made craft.

Nice little video.
I wonder what God’s plan is for Titan?

He is a god himself:
The Titans, also known as the elder gods, ruled the earth before the Olympians overthrew them. The ruler of the Titans was Cronus who was de-throned by his son Zeus. Most of the Titans fought with Cronus against Zeus and were punished by being banished to Tartarus. During their rule the Titans were associated with the various planets.

During their rule the Titans were associated with the various planets.

Following their rule they have been associated with oversized impressions that will swallow your sanity if someone doesn’t point that what you are trapped in is a bloody great giants footprint.

I suppose they did attempt to avoid this by wearing sandals………….

So the solar system is just some giant’s toe prints.

I think I am more referring to the mental anguish they left behind without properly tidying up. Physics is physics. This particular conversation belongs in the ‘are religions mental diseases thread’.

>>Physics is physics.
Except quantum physics which seems to make itself up as it goes along.

Is that not simply an inevitability of the GR/SR dynamics?

It may well be but I’m not comfortable with the words inevitable & quantum in the same sentence.

actually quantum mechanics is one of the most accurate theories we have. don’t confuse not knowing how some of it works with not being able to make accurate predictions.

If you include both those words in the same sentence you must recognise that inevitabilities can be either mitigated or prevented. This is a very interesting discussion I will have to continue when I return from work. Stay well tamb. :)

Superb little video. I don’t see any faults in it, and for me that’s saying something.

LOL.
Theoretical physics and observational physics diverged in about 1981-2, and haven’t been brought back together since.
