Hi all

Hopefully someone here would know what to do with this…

I was out at the shops late last night. It was dark when I came out, so I turned on my headlights, but they didn’t work. Only the parkers work. I’ve checked both fuse boxes and neither have any blown fuses. Hi-beams work fine.

Driving a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

The headlights don’t have fuses as such for that sort of thing, but they do have relays. Sounds like either the switch in the stalk on the control column is buggered or the relay is.

Checked your headlight fluid?

Have just spoken to Autobarn and they’ve said it’s possible for both globes to blow at once if there’s a voltage spike. Not common but does happen. I’m having trouble locating the headlight relay, but know there’s one there somewhere. Thought it’d be in the under-bonnet fuse box, but it’s not listed clearly as to which one it might be.

Hopefully just a relay, and hopefully they’ll have it in stock. They quoted me about $20 per globe or $20 for a relay … ballpark.

The relays are not always all together with the fuse box. but they’ll be on the wiring circuit for the lights.

When I find an unusual problem in an auto I search for a model specific forum and look through their Q+A sections.
Here is one for the PT Cruiser that also has headlight problems. I’ve not read it through myself but there may be advice on there for you JTQ….

Most, if not all, car problems are caused by the nut that holds the steering wheel.

Get a Chery J3. You can get two of them for less than the price of a Jeep Compass.

Unless you’re buying a Land cruiser, there’s plenty of better priced, better spec’d, better to drive 4WDs available.

I just realised how that reads. I mean, the only Toyota I’d buy would be a cruiser.

Even then, my 70 series work truck is a world away from my Navara in terms of comfort. The Toyota would tow a house up a cliff, but It’s definitely not built for comfort.

;-)

i started in an old 67 landy. my first cruiser was luxury compared to that.
