Subject: No Big Bang? Quantum equation predicts universe has no beginning

The universe may have existed forever, according to a new model that applies quantum correction terms to complement Einstein’s theory of general relativity. The model may also account for dark matter and dark energy, resolving multiple problems at once.

Well bugger me. I thought it could be modelled. Could be an interesting argument.

i don’t believe this disproves the current BB theory, just extends it past the current T=0. or rather T=10-35.

“Their future work includes redoing their study while taking into account small inhomogeneous and anisotropic perturbations, but they do not expect small perturbations to significantly affect the results.”

inhomogeneous…wtf?

What about using heterogeneous, dickwads! :)

Interesting nonetheless.

i do believe that the term “inhomogeneous” has specific contextual meaning in mathematics – specifically in regards to “degree or dimension”

from the interwebs…

Inhomogeneous simply means not homogeneous. This covers a range of conditions, ranging from almost homogeneous to completely heterogeneous, which means made up of different things and kinds of things. The OP has an oversimplified view of word meanings, I’m afraid. One should not use technically speaking without a firm grasp of the technical specs.

They’re using maths, well I’ll be buggered.

Good to see them taking these models further. I’ve long favoured the idea that the universe has no beginning or end.

it was always going to be a quantum advancement at these times.

If it had no beginning then what form would it have existed in before the age of inflation

I can imagine “no end” but not no beginning.

What do they mean by spacially finite here? Are they concluding that ongoing spatial expansion indicates finite parameters?

Seems to be a consequence of the mathematics they’re employing, based on new physics. It’s a highly speculative model – personally I wouldn’t bother trying to sort it out in detail at this stage :)
