Winds NE 20km/h

There are only two things that upset me. Super-cyclists and my kids mum. Only one of those present any challenge to mood maintenance.

Well done and in open water too that impresses me as I am a non swimmer. Are you looking at doing a triathlon in the near future?
I’m in a 10k race in a couple of weeks but finding it difficult to get my motivation. I will run the 10k but won’t do it in record time. My trainer has put me in a mentoring position and helping out some of our newer runners. This is enjoyable and hopefully will help to get me motivated again..

That’s the plan :) – my swimming sucks though and needs lots of work (haven’t swam properly since early years of high school (~15 years ago).

I found motivation for just running difficult at times too. There’s a 10k in March after my first planned Tri so I might be doing that, for fun.

we like to call the 5 m 60 kilo reticulated python at the zoo cuddles too…. we don’t say that that is his name, because, you know, they are not pets, but I tell everyone what we ‘like to call’ him.

the Australian authorities try to keep home management systems easy. You can’t just keep any reptile, there is a list of reptiles you are allowed to keep in a home situation. you are not allowed to keep any exotic pet in Australia without bigger, more expensive animal husbandry licenses…
In the USA you can walk into a pet shop and pick up a lizard, any lizard from anywhere… I dare say some of those pets go the way of goldfish :(

interesting. we are told never to feed live animals because a live animal will fight back and reptiles in captivity are prone to mites that can really hurt the animal if it manages to get through the skin, not to mention the scratches and bites…

Miss m was slightly upset at the lack of wildlife in Fiji, having seen only one bird species (sparrow-like) and one lizard species (indoors during the day) in a fortnight.
Was thinking about global species yesterday, those species that are found all around the world. There are pest species of course. Among non-pest species, I was already aware that the Ruddy Turnstone and Peregrine Falcon are worldwide. But it didn’t occur to me until a couple of days ago that the Painted Lady butterfly also has a worldwide distribution.

The painted lady flies up to nine thousand mils in migration http://butterfly-conservation.org/5183-2342/painted-lady-migration-secrets-revealed.html
Studies have shown that that the Australian painted lady migrates south in the spring and summer, and north in the autumn and winter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_painted_lady Yes it is a distinctly different species.

Heard a tale on another forum where a damaged car was written off by the insurance company who then promptly cancelled the policy because the driver had not disclosed previous traffic infringements. So the car owner ended up without a car and no money and wasted premiums.
Tip for young players: full disclosure when opening a policy. Refusing the claim and wasting your premium is not the worst that can happen.

It seems that from the moment the vehicle is inspected and deemed too expensive to repair, it is irrevocably flagged as written off. We couldn’t even withdraw our claim. We got the
settlement changed so we ended up with the car – which apart from the hail-stripped clear outer coat of paint and minor hail dents – is a good, low mileage, car that doesn’t use oil.
After trying to replace it, even adding a couple of thousand dollars into the mix, we found we would’ve ended up with a car that was either rusty, moderately damaged, poorly maintained or had 300k+ kilometres on it.

Yeah, it would be if I could be. But I am not permitted to drive Mrs V’s little red powdeer puff car. It’s on the Written Off Motor Vehicles Register. We await Motor Transport to get it off there. I hope they don’t take too long. But it will be whatever time they take…
Heard a tale on another forum where a damaged car was written off by the insurance company who then promptly cancelled the policy because the driver had not disclosed previous traffic infringements.
We got the settlement changed so we ended up with the car – which apart from the hail-stripped clear outer coat of paint and minor hail dents – is a good, low mileage, car that doesn’t use oil.
After trying to replace it, even adding a couple of thousand dollars into the mix, we found we would’ve ended up with a car that was either rusty, moderately damaged, poorly maintained or had 300k+ kilometres on it.
it doesn’t take a lot of panel damage to write off a car… and hail is the doozy, probably looks like a golf ball…

Which Universe Are We In?
7.30pm – 8.30pm
SBS ONETonight
Cosmologists are daring to think the unthinkable. The universe as we know it doesn’t exist. We are just one miniscule part of a much bigger picture – a multiverse of infinite proportions. Once considered the domain of extreme scientists, new evidence from all areas of physics now suggests that the multiverse is a real possibility. This visually stunning documentary travels through four very different visions of the multiverse. Get ready to leave your pre-conceived notions of reality at the door and open your minds to whole new worlds of possibility. It’s produced in the UK so should be pretty good.

Why can’t they publicise speculations about possible multiverses without throwing in some crap about the universe as we know it not existing?

Interesting that the missus told me more news off facebook than the local newspaper website. Not that this makes me want to join facebook or anything. Apparently we had a mini-tornado here.
ESSENTIAL Energy crews have worked throughout the night to repair and restore power to customers in Griffith and surrounding areas.
Approximately 8000 customers had their power disrupted at around 7pm last night after a severe storm front caused extensive damage to the local electricity network.
Regional manager, Southern, Steven Ilitch, said crews had made inroads into repairs and restoration, however, the extent of the damage and access to some areas has slowed restoration efforts.
“Crews worked overnight removing vegetation from powerlines, changing power poles and fixing network damage,” Steven said.
“At this time 5:20 am approximately 5000 customers are without supply.

I like watching the race when they infrequently show it on TV but I reckon it would be boring in real life. Too long a track and most of the sight lines seem to be just a bike wizzing past at high speeds. Of course the theatre and atmosphere of the place are probably bigger draw cards.

nice, keep me informed, i’ll head up for it if you’re there (it’s only 300km from here)
know anyone interested in a triumph velocette 1100 that’s been sitting in a shed since the 70s? i know of one that may come up for sale in the near future
I am always interested in old bikes. Find out more, please. Is it a Triumph or a Velocette? Or some weird hybrid? And how did it get to be an 1100? Some people were doing funky stuff in the lat 60s to 70s.
I am wondering whether you mean a Velocette Thruxton (500cc single)? Aargh. Too many things to guess…
iirc it has triumph badges and velocette on the rego tag (last regod 1973)
I’ll try to get some photos when I’m in Adelaide
(it’s in my parents neighbour’s shed, it got parked there in the 70s, i was born in the 80s and it’s been sat in the same spot my entire life)
Please do take some photos. Both sides if possible.
(Excited already.)

Probably wouldn’t pass the rego inspection up here in QLD.

Velocettes (except the small twin LE model) all had a distinctive and interesting-looking timing case on the right side. The spring-frame of the MSS and its derivatives was also quite unusual and distinctive. The company was quite innovative – first OHC on a road bike, first foot gear change and many other things. IIRC, the last Velos sold anywhere were sold in Australia in the early ’70s – the Sportsman, an MSS derivative.

The Coral Sea Tropical Low may develop into a cyclone, too. The RB house is just within the southern portion of the cyclone watch zone. I’d better go get my act together to get there today. Could be a fun few days…

It’s strange this year. They’re all average cooks and most of them are jerks as well. I don’t like the tennis bloke or the Greek girls. Before the series started I’d already decided to go for the Texan as he lives in the Blue Mts. Luckily he turned out to be a nice guy and a good cook!

washed them in fresh water, which would have been ok if they used sydney rock oysters (what they themselves grow) but they used pacific oysters which are salt water oysters and the salt adds to the flavour.
Both types were out of season at the time the show was filmed, so they got triploid oysters, which are engineered not to spawn, so they don’t lose condition out of season, but overall are a lower quality all year round.

Nods
A local comedian used to do a blackface character named “King Billy Cokebottle” – all the local indigenous loved him and thought he was the funniest thing going. Then he became popular and the Big City media got a wind of it and the outrage bus cranked over.

- You’d think that when the brief was emailed out, someone would have said something
You would also think that the social media warriors should get off their high horse and understand the intent behind the promotion is not the one they are reading into it…
As if, it’s a full time job to be outraged on behalf of others usually without even asking them if they are upset
No matter what you say or what stance you take, someone is going to disagree. The media love to give airtime to anyone who is outraged over anything

Thinking back, the person manning the CT scanner asked me what the doctor meant about which scans he wanted. I should have said, ring the doctor and ask him. Perhaps I’ve missed out on a scan the doctor wanted.

If you scroll back down you’ll see that they do appear somewhere back there. As p_p said, it seemed as if the site was reading the time stamps rather than the post number.

Note that in the vbt column that posts should appear in order of post number and be greyed out if you have read them.
This post is listed well after mine. ie further up the order, though it was made well affter mine and displays an erroneous time stamp.

I’m sure my clock said 2:11 at the time.

edit: I mean p_p’s post was made before my post, time stamped after and put higher on the list. Weird stuff.

Good morning. The temp has just dropped back to 12.7°C. The forefcast rain seems to have taken a course to redirection and dissipation before arrivng. Looks like four days of frosts from Tues morning on. Winter will arrive on cue.
This simply means that I’l be digging trees without interruption and shvering in my boots, again.

Good morning. I can hear the sounds of spiny cheeked honeyeaters and butcherbirds in the background but English blackbirds dominate the foreground. Better get my rat traps out again.
If I was able to I’d round them up and shift them back to England.

My suggestion is to put the people on Tony’s team, such as Corman, on the backbench with Tony. Let them all have a break, to gain a sense of reality.
