It is asking you for your ADSL user ID and password.

If you’re using a USB modem then you don’t have one.

Yes the router needs this to function
Yes you can connect via your USB without needing it. After you set up the router that is.

Your modem, whatever it is, needs the router to work to function.

Yeah. The routers USB has nothing to do with your modem, whatever type it is.

Yeah. The routers USB has nothing to do with your modem, whatever type it is.

The router distributes the signal.. Your modem/WIFI whatever, picks up that signal.

The guy did. My advice if you are having difficulties, pick up the phone and ask for that guy. Put him on the spot.

Step 1 read the instructions, step 2 start following them, step 3 if all else fails contact the supplier.

I am simply describing the process of watching my mate up north try to install a new router after his old one died. All he needed to do was follow the instructions and he eventually had to apply force politely back to the source to find the exact information required which was in your initial question and answered in the next post.

There should either be a visible reset button or you should be able to find it in the instructions.

I don’t agree that they were all useless in any way at all, though they were probably jsimply payback.

When faced with instructions that don’t seem to work, it usually comes back to something misunderstood.
Perhaps sometimes with Chinese stuff or other imports we have no control here whether the correct insructions for the supplied model actually are decipherable. In this instance it is best to go back to the supplier and request assistance.

You don’t need the d-link router.

Can your laptop and other computer talk to each other?

a) Yes -> Plug USB modem into either machine and share the internet connection.

b) No -> Plug a network cable between the two machines -> goto step a.

c) No -> Plug a wireless network adapter into tower computer and enable wireless network in laptop -> goto step a.

Instructions translated from gobbledygook into English can often be no easier to comprehend.
