I was wondering

with plaque build up, around teeth and gums, is there some substance they can use to replace the build up of the plaque ?

say there is a cavity in your gum a natural cavity like just behind your front teeth

remove the plaque, from that natural cavity and then replace it with some other substance to help prevent it biulding up there again?

or have they already done this?

cause last time I had plaque removed they didn’t replace the natural cavity with anything

My understanding is that plaque is similar to limestone, it deposits in alkaline environments in the mouth. But cavities are created by acid, which is the opposite of the environment required for depositing plaque. As a result, there is not a particularly strong correlation between plaque and cavities. But what can happen is if the environment oscillates between acid and alkaline (the saliva is a chemical buffer that is supposed to stop this from happening), then porosities in the plaque can hold acid (such as cola), temporarily up against the tooth enamel.

But far worse for tooth decay than plaque is organic matter, which turns acid as it chemically breaks down because it has a ratio of H to O that strongly favours H over O, and because it feeds bacteria.

I don’t get why you would want to put something back where the plaque was. It’s just a build up of stuff. That you get scraped off.
