If you were Minister for science what sort of projects and direction would you do?

we need more science in schools,

we need a new weekly science show, that discusses recent science discoveries

bring back the inventors

a science show directed towards children

restore funding to the CSIRO

a satellite launch system for small micro satellites and a university program to develop technology for the micro satellites

online science and technology courses

I was pleasantly surprised once to overhear on the train a couple of kids from a private school talking about how much they enjoyed physics at their school.

I’ve encouraged my children to pursue and enjoy science but honestly have no idea if school aged children let alone most adults even care less about science beyond the technological spin-offs for the latest phone model.

I’ve always been fascinated by science.

I put it a different way. The equipment used to teach science in high school, and the science curriculum in high school, is word for word almost exactly the same as it was when I went through high school science in 1970. Science has moved on enormously since then. Students no longer need to spend weeks learning useless things like the “plum pudding” model of the atom.

Why I’d form a Science Army. People much younger than myself would be conscripted into the sciences for two years and be exposed to the rigid discipline of the scientific method.
