What do you reckon would be the highest ceiling that any person could touch by jumping?
The person can run up if they think it will help but they have to be barefoot.

I don’t want to play this game or clean up afterwards.

Getting a launch off a wall makes a big difference.

It depends how high they jumped from
You’ll need a note from your doctor or guardian
Depends on what planet they’re on.

I’m going to guess at something of the order of 5 metres.

How about a note from the cats?
Or Alllllllllllex?

Okay I am ruling that out.

OK, that’s on Earth, from a flat floor, without touching walls, chairs, or anything other than the floor.
You’ll need to have para-touch jumping, with categories.

So someone whose 7 feet tall with arms above head crouches down and jumps up say two to three feet (if lucky) would probably reach a 12 to 14 foot ceiling above them

The tallest person in recorded history was close to 9 feet, so he would have been able to touch close to 12 feet without jumping at all.
The current Olympic high jump record (men’s) is 2.45 m, if that helps.

I found this so 9 feet tall plus what 4 foot long arms plus 5 feet (assuming worlds tallest man could equal this) equals 18 feet
The highest standing jump onto a platform was 1.52 m (5 ft) by Justin Bethel (USA) at Presbyterian College Athletics Gym based in Clinton, South Carolina, on 27 April 2012.
With one’s own natural feet? I reckon those bouncy feet like Oscar Pistorius could jump quite high with a bit of practice.

Natural feet only. No cyborgs.
The highest recorded jump touch was done my Mavis Mackellmore of Ridefast, Missourri, on April 23rd, 1954, on a Wednesday.

dvs problem isn;t very well formulated – vertical jumps are measured from the floor up, not the the roof down
Extremely tall people such as Wadlow tend to not be athletic, indeed he was basically crippled. His arm was about 1.3 m long but it grew from his shoulder rather than the top of his head but if he was able to at least do a bit of a hop he should have been able to tap 4 m.
What started me thinking of this was high slips catches btw.

I don’t understand your objection. I think my question is well formulated and unambiguously expressed.

Well it would be surprising if the record was held by a woman.
My guess was based on:
Height to top of shoulder for reasonably athletic person: 2.5 m
Arm length: 1.0 m
Jump height (rise in CoG with body ending up close to vertical): 1.5 m.

I suspect that Dropbear just made that up, but if he didn’t someone should tell Wikipedia.

I would probably guess something like that. It should be in the Olympics.

:-O surely not
Keiron Pollard takes a catch that must be nearly 5 metres off the ground:

but that’s not quite what we want…

No but we know someone can jump around 5 feet off the ground from a standing start plus their height and however much their arms extend above their head

seems the highest I can find is someone that demonstrated a vertical reach of 13 feet (that’s a touch under 4.0m)

Their feet moved 5 feet of the ground, but the rise of their centre of gravity would have been quite a bit less than that.

Thats true, I was thinking they’d also be standing completely straight which they wouldn’t

It’s easy to get your feet more than 5 feet off the ground if CofG is not an issue. Do a handstand.
The current high jump record is 2.45 m, the space cleared by the body.
The vertical jump record from a standing start is 1.17 m (in addition to height reached without jumping).
Using non-standard leap techniques a jump the maximum recorded height is 1.52 m from Kadour Ziani (in addition to height reached without jumping).
