So how many of these are codswallop?

1 Pineapple is a natural painkiller. The fruit contains anti-inflammatory enzymes that bring pain relief from conditions such as arthritis, according to a study at Reading University.

2 Pomegranate juice could prevent a heart attack. This wonder juice is believed to improve blood flow to the heart and lower blood pressure.

3 Onions are natural antibiotics. They might make your breath pong but onions contain allicin, a powerful antibiotic that also protects the circulatory system.

4 Mushrooms can ward off colds. They contain more of an immune-boosting antioxidant called ergothioneine than any other food, say researchers at Pennsylvania State University.

5 Beetroot can pep up your sex life. It contains high levels of the mineral boron, which influences the production of sex hormones.

6 Blueberries can boost memory. A study at Tufts University in Boston showed eating half a cup of this fruit regularly could delay age-related deterioration in co-ordination and short-term memory.

7 A pint is as good as red wine. A pint of beer or stout is officially as beneficial as red wine for fighting cancer and heart disease, says scientists at Canada’s University of Western Ontario.

8 Eat chocolate, live longer Hurray! Harvard University scientists say that eating a couple of chocolate bars a week could extend your life by almost a year.

9 Grapefruit juice can stop medicine working. If you’re taking medication, avoid washing it down with grapefruit juice as there is evidence that it prevents some drugs being broken down.

10 You should never drink tea or coffee with meals. Tannins in tea and coffee prevent absorption of certain nutrients. A cup of tea with a meal will halve the iron you get from it, whereas a glass of orange juice will double it.

11 Cherries can cure gout. Cherries contain compounds that significantly reduce the chemicals in the body which cause joint inflammation.

12 Eating curry could help prevent Alzheimer’s. According to a report in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, a yellow pigment used in curry, curcumin, can stop amyloid plaques in the brain that cause the condition.

48 Frozen vegetables are just as healthy as fresh Although generally speaking fresh is best, providing the fruit or vegetables are frozen immediately after picking, they will retain most of their nutrients and vitamins.

lol.. frozen is just as good, except they aren’t, though they are almost.

I can’t cope with fresh pineapple, but I can eat a bit of the tinned stuff.

I fail as a Queenslander :)

red herring comes from the ruse of dragging a red herring, a salted and hard smoked herring, to put the hounds off a scent.

For how many of those can you find a supporting peer-reviewed medical article?

they preceded the bloater. used a lot for export to fed slaves. would last a loooong time. bloaters are more a straightaway or next day eat. being lighter salted and smoked. they aren’t gutted.

What makes it necessary to starve the oceans for a few fish?

This be the kind of question the aborigine would have asked.

How does that work? I mean they taste like manna from heaven when you’re not off your face; when you are stoned they are mind-numbingly delicious :P

Or does one add some dried mango to the joint (or cookie, as some people like to do :P)?

Possibly all it means is that you pig out on the mango face first rather than by using table manners and implements.

Hmmm…yes, maybe.

You’ve reminded me of when I spent every day at the beach during one school holidays and I’d buy a mango from the fruit shop for lunch. Then I’d eat it sitting on my towel with a cleansing swim afterwards. Always amazing.

mangoes are delicious enough that you don’t need to ‘enhance’ it

however I did google the effects of mangoes on THC and it came up with some hits, mainly from pro pot sites, touting that if you eat a mango about an hour prior it will increase the effects of THC both in the initial high and the duration of the stone.

“The exotic sweet fruit rich in vitamin A can prolong the high effect originally felt while smoking marijuana. The delightful smell of mangoes is attributed to the chemical myrcene, specifically the terpenes inside, which is also found in cannabis and other exotic plants, says Berkeley Patients Care Collective. Upon consumption of a mango, the terpenes enter the bloodstream, and then whether you smoke before or after eating the mango, the terpenes will interact with the psychoactive ingredient THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in order to increase the potency and duration of the ‘high’ effect.

The terpenes in mangoes and THC in marijuana will elevate high levels for users, especially, if the mango is consumed prior to inhalation. Sufferers from chronic pain can reap the benefits of mangoes to extend their pain relief, which is a healthier and cost effective alternative. Persons who wish to consume mangoes should take into account their metabolism;”

one of the sites the author “has a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy.” I’m sold…

but yer, in short, it’s supposed to ‘help’

He described the method plainly by example. You slice the mango skin right around the edge longitudinally and then cut down to the sead and circumscribe the seed, then using a spoon, pare back the two halves away from the seed, still attached to the skin. You then cube the flesh and spoon it out, leaving the seed and skin on the plate.

Watermelon is the manna that fell from heaven to feed the Israelites during the great famine of ~1500BC.
There was some collateral damage.

Thyme does all of that and is one of the most nutritious of foods, if only one could stomach a big feed of it.

One of my faves is Yarrow and Thyme tea. Keeps much illness at bay.

Being a browser or grazer, I eat the tips of various plants like long after people would have stopped cuttng asparagus shoots I eat the growing tips of the new leaves. I also munch away on young radish seed pods, like spicy green peas. The flowers and young seed pods on rocket are sweeter and less bitter than rocket leaves can get when they are in flower.
