Hmm, I’d prefer smart cars that realise: “Your driver has just jumped out of the roof. Better go and pick them up”.

all the drunks can now do the finger at cops as they pass the booze bus

maybe hotels should have a self driving courtesy car for drunks?

We’ve had pilotless aircraft for yonks. Driverless cars are lagging way behind.

Looked last week at a driverless car in “James May’s Big Ideas” DVD. The optics system was pathetic. It needed a large 360*90 degree laser scanner to operate, awful. The 3-D world model it produced was no better. I could do the same – create a realistic 3-D model of surrounding terrain and obstacles for a driverless car from as little as a single fixed-focus camera (possibly even a $20 webcam) – with a negligible computer processing time.

I do not think it is technology that is holding the driverless car back, but the legislative and litigious hurdles that are needed to be overcome.

For instance, a driverless car may be 10 times safer than a manually driven car, but they will still crash and there will be deaths. Who will be responsible – the “driver”, for not paying due care and attention, or the manufacturer? Or both?

My dad hypothesises that a driverless car will always err on the side of caution to the point where it will not overtake another car, ever.

Why would a driverless car ever need to overtake another driverless car anyway? They would both be driving at the optimal speed for the conditions.

Perhaps the front driverless car is towing a caravan.

I think the hypothesis only applies where the front car is being driven by Hans Moleman.

Morning

Ran in the drizzling rain this morning, loved it :)

Looks like it might be a day of rain in FNQ, I can barely see the mountains this morning and it’s very cool at 24 degrees.

Watched the Book of Life movie last night, very colourful and loved the Mexican flavour :)
