Hi everybody.

Some of you may remember that I bought myself an electric piano before xmas and have been playing around with it for a few months.

For my very first attempt at home recording and video editing, I have performed a cover version of Eric Bogle’s iconic ANZAC song;

“The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”.

It is a Youtube video of piano, vocals, and bass guitar. 7 minutes. (210mb)

It is best listened to with hifi headphones or Apple in-ear headphones, and a beer.

Please enjoy and feel free to leave comments. (There are two missing image files which I will repair shortly)

I recorded it in a bedroom with no acoustic treatment.

I also have severe tinnitus and high frequency hearing loss so have probably emphasized the top end a bit.

perfect.. a stylised collaborative version

I always change the style of the song I am playing.. sometimes you don’t want to play it rock.. sometimes you might want to do a homespun country version, or a sultry folk version… a ballad style “Khe Sanh” always goes over well…

Like I keep telling people, it really does sound 100% better with decent headphones.

You can hear the metallic sound of the brand new bass strings and that deep woody sound from the low piano notes.

Seconded on the bass / treble balance using Sennheiser headphones.

I would have preferred some solo voice rather than chorus all the way through, but a good effort nevertheless.

Thanks AussieDJ.

I agree the chorus should have been used more sparingly, although I want to point out that it’s not a digital chorus effect.

I recorded the vocals twice and panned one half to the left and the other half to the right.

I also need to get over the embarrassment of singing loudly at home with headphones on, worried about what the neighbours are thinking.

I need to sing louder but back off the microphone more. Easier to sing in tune that way.
