I recall someone (or many people) from the old SSSF saying you should never wash beer glasses in a dishwasher. Is this true even in pubs? I can’t see them washing each beer glass by hand.

Pubs use glasswashers. They use very high temperature water and special detergent.
I detest any glasses put in dishwashers. After multiple trips though, they go a milky colour due to the abrasives in dishwasher detergent scratching them and they develop a distinct odour. I can’t drink a glass of water at my MIL’s place as all her glasses are like this.
The detergent for washing beer bottles from the home brew shop is brilliant for glasswear.

They have different types of dishwashers in Pubs.

Yes but how many glasses do you wash at home?

Must depend on multiple things like cleanliness of dishwasher/water hardness/TDS/etc etc. Hasn’t happened to ours yet either.

Some people sill rinse their stuff before they put it in the dishwasher. Some people also sort their stuff before putting it in. Water hardness differs from place to place. Newer dishwashers and detergents may also be improved.
Drink wine not beer. Problem solved.

Beer comes in recyclable glass.

And I might add solar panels seem to have bottomed out price wise.

Mine neither.
we used to have a problem with plastic.. the smell of the detergent lingered.. then I changed cleaning brands and it doesn’t happen anymore… however, at the end of the cycle, I open the door a little and allow the steam to escape and the dishes to dry before putting away this also stops rust forming on the cutlery
Rust shouldn’t occur unless it has been left to sit too long without drying properly.
Hence opening the door to let the steam escape.

I don’t know if it is.. but I do it because I’m a rebel.. I make my own rules
I thought it was just common sense.

That is to be commended if the actions taken are correct. If I recall correctly, it should be in the instructions in microwaves as well.
many of my personal rules are common sense…

Common sense shouldn’t require thought processes.

Many men wish all women were so inclined.
with beer glasses, it is the detergent not the dishwasher that is the issue.
detergents leave a film that ruins the beers head.
you’ll find glass dishwashers in hospitality don’t use detergent, but high heat washing
there is a difference between a ‘clean beer glass’ and a ‘beer clean glass’
Most people use too much detergent in their dishwasher. The detergent compartment does not need to be filled.
You can tell if you’re using too much detergent by filling a washed glass with water and checking whether tiny bubbles form at the top.
Most dishwashers require only a teaspoon of the most popular brand powder. The tablets are too big. Either way, this brand is way too caustic for glasswear, crockery or cutlery that is intended for long-term use, as the surfaces become etched and lose their lustre.
I knew it was a detergent issue.

Though I don’t use dishwashers. I do use high heat and little or no detergent most of the time. The hotter the water the cleaner the result, the faster the drying time.

It is the detergent that removes the lipstick though.

my dishwasher takes about 15-20 mins.. and then gives a little beep to tell me it’s done.. that’s when I get one of the kids to open it up

no, it is the bar porter/glassy
20 mins? Mine takes over an hour. I have to use Normal wash; the eco wash doesn’t get anything clean.
yeah, it’s great.. washing machine also is 15 mins only (on fast/eco wash – which is fine for most things)

Pays to research well and pay the money fo the quality you desire.

Mine takes ages too. I use the heavy duty cycle with an eco/earth brand detergent.
Hand-washed items include:
- plastic
- pots and pans with flour or stodgy residue
- eggy things
- big knives
- wooden items
>>the eco wash doesn’t get anything clean.
Like those eco light bulbs, once you put them in you’ve got to wait till daylight to read how to dispose of them responsibly.
At the moment the only hand washed things are Little Miss’ bottles and the electric frypan.

That’s why we sold ours. Takes ages, uses too much water & electricity.
These ere my reasons for refusing to install one. Also that we don’t have sewerage and that we needed to limit what we put in drains we grew food gardens on top of.
somethings are worth the money you pay for them.. I think of dishwashers and washing machines (an fact almost ay product that ‘cleans for me) to be worth the extra initial outlay. I bought both the best of the best Bosch I could find and afford.. and the rewards are great.. so far….

That one hit the spot, I’ll be chuckling all day. :)
i got some green light bulbs once. was like living in a rainforest.
Doing the washing up should be a family bonding thing.

Just deserves for doing the research and being willing to pay for what you want.

Living where I do it’s a one person job. We never dry up. The water evaporates fast enough on it’s own.

Yeah I allow them to air dry. Rinse them in very hot water, they dry rapidly.
Bonding, one cooks/one washes.

yeah, me mum was always telling me to dry up.

I’m with multiple factors causing the coloration.
Is he fety surprised if pubs used no detergents in their glass washers.
It’s important to use a good rinse aid to help remove detergent residues. My glasses go through the dishwasher nicely and have done for many years now. I don’t put crystal in though. I’m told that’s what goes cloudy.I’d be very surprised …

the only perk was being hit upon by women all night
I had to leave the place was making me sick, bacteria/ virus was streaming through the air con system, it made me sick once then felled me the following week and gave me a cough that lasted three months
stay away from pubs
