Yep.
That study was all over the place during the 2012 US Presidential elections :P
You just imagine the outrage…

No. “All A is B” does not imply “all B is A”. The study authors acknowledged that that interpretation was likely, and explicitly disavowed it (I read the original article a week or so ago.)

It was discussed in here of all places. ;)

I thought this might be closer to a structural relationship like ‘Fox News is not racist, but all the racists watch it.’ where A is not sufficient to explain B, but there’s more there than mere correlation.

As a social conservative I find just the opposite.
I find that we have the smarts without boasting about it and having to compare ourselves with others all the time.
And you will find more compassion and the milk of human kindness in the writings of conservatives like say Winston Churchill than you will ever find in the Borg like bland and cold writings of leftists like say Marx or Adams.

But at the end of the day we’re all climbing the same mountain albeit by different paths.
Except for Wookie, he’s climbing a different mountain altogether

I know what you mean. I watched a bit of a youtube video by Penn and Teller the other day and was immediately struck by their great intelligence presented with quiet modesty.

No. I believe he is only being himself. The only reason Teller puts up with him is so that he doesn’t have to open his mouth.

Penn is an avowed atheist, and if you read any of his books, i doubt that you’d think that he’s right-wing.

Anyway it’s not surprising that people with low IQ tend to be conservative, since understanding and embracing new ideas requires a sufficiently competent intellect, and most low IQ children presumably have parents of low IQ and are thus raised in conservative households.

Yes, i suppose you could call him what PJ O’Rourke described as a ‘Pants-Off’ Republican.

Anyway, feel free to substitute Alan Jones for Penn and Teller if he fits better.

My views of P&T are based on watching about 30 s of You Tube video, so it’s just possible they may not be that accurate.

They’re sensible on some issues, silly on others (e.g., they’re fierce opponents of gun control).

Regrettably, this also fits the picture of ‘Pants-off’ Republicanism.

The tenets of that are probably summarised in the title of a PJ O’Rourke article: ‘How to Drive Real Fast While Getting Your Wing-Wang Squeezed Without Spilling Your Drink’.

You could base your views on what American audiences watch.

It very well may be that there is correlation between low intelligence and social conservatism but I think this conclusion is of little value.

OTOH I would be very surprised if amongst people of high intelligence there was any particular bias towards either liberal or conservative mind-sets.

I think that’s why many conservatives readily dismiss new ideas, because they have difficulty understanding them,
