Subject: Quantites from PDF's

Only recently discovered how to take off and export quantities in Adobe. Its fantastic .
Does anyone out use this ?
I really need to use Perimeter tool.
A couple of Q’s

After doing a series of perimters I can go back and hover over it getting a total length , but doesnt break down the lenths within that particular perimeter. Is this information available without using Distance tool ? Adding a heap of distances quickly crowds things up and need to be exported at a separate time.

I have three different types of (Balustrading) I am taking off . Is there some way to say use a different colour for each and export the different quantites in one go or do I need to save one type, export and go back and do the next type?

Any help appreciated
Thanks in advance

Brett

What are these perimeter tools of which you speak?

Sounds interesting, but I’ve never heard of them.

(Sounds dangerous using them for purposes where accuracy is important as well, but I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen them).

Just discovered that Acrobat reader has an advanced search!

But I didn’t find any measuring tools.

Fine for quantity take off for Balustrading at tendering stage, particularly if you have 40 PDFs to go through.
Have to do a site measure for fabrication anyway .

Right click in the menu bar
select analysis
click inside box that appears to select snap type and measuring tool ie area , distance or perimeter.
Export to excel by right clicking in PDF

Of course all plans should be in Excel start with Rev :)

Thomo,

Interesting. I am doing some contracting for an offshore take off / quantity surveying business at the moment and they use a few different tools to digitise PDFs.

New PDFs saved from Autodesk are a hybrid PDF that can be easily converted accurately back into a vector form that allows a snap feature therefore 100% accurate and fast input.

They also use a multitude of different packages for block, slab, claddings and the like.many have traceable PDF routines in them.
If you are interested I’ll be in the office next week and see if they have any free packages they use that might be suitable if the Adobe doesn’t cut it or I’ll check up on the new hybrid PDFs.

Likewise, the Adobe might be the way forward for them in some take offs.
