Why do some people, (mainly women) when being interviewed on TV, open their eyes very wide when answering a question? it always make me think that someone has snuck up and given them a digital rectal examination that they weren’t expecting?

your world view is antiquated and you often come across as quite misogynistic. Do you do this intentionally?

No, I just asked a question, and the rest is your construction.

¿Could it be because they’re thinking, as opposed to most people being interviewed on TV.

Yes. For both me and Bob from Black Rock.

They do it deliberately, usually upon my advice and instruction. I’m an expert in these matters.

Shifty and flitting eyes looks like a person is lying.
they may look silly, but at least they don’t look like they are lying.

Graves’ ophthalmopathy (also known as thyroid eye disease (TED), dysthyroid/thyroid-associated orbitopathy (TAO), Graves’ orbitopathy) is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder affecting the orbit around the eye, characterized by upper eyelid retraction, lid lag, swelling (edema), redness (erythema), conjunctivitis, and bulging eyes (proptosis).

as far as I can see its a mental disease in some cases – they have that manic look about them

the whole family are nutters
I don’t know bob, I seldom watch television. Maybe they’re just being alert and attentive which makes them open their eyes wider than normal.

It isn’t only females. It is because they are focusing on the camera.
Perhaps they are lying but do the opposite eye movement expected to make the lies more believable.
Maybe wide open eyes make you look more vulnerable and it’s a deliberate action to garner sympathy when being asked some difficult questions.
there a place north Sydney way that specialises in selling mono mokes
whilst inspecting one mini mike I discovers the accelerator pedal pivoted on a nail
I looked through the rest all being sold for top dollar and spoke to the “ salesman “ / owner
you could barely see his eyes , they were just slits wedged open enough to see you
mini mokes
auto correct

Certainly conjured up images of fun being had. ;)
probably indicates ‘engaged’, maybe healthy, open, responsive, that sort of thing, mediagenic even. Pleased to be alive, one of the living. Attentive, loving.
Large eyes are typically seen more attractive than small ones. People with large eyes appear more trust-worthy and approachable.
The foreign minister lady has very tiny eyes. I’ve noticed that she tries to make her eyes appear larger with the use of make-up and also makes an effort to open her eyes wide during interviews. Is this who you saw on the TV, bob?

Tim Minchin
Comedians seem wired all the time.

They always told me “his eyes are too close together”. I’m not so sure that actually means that he can’t be trusted.
When I look in the mirror my eyes appar to be almost shut but I’ve also been told that I have trustworthy eyes.
However the foreign minister lady could paint false eyes on and I’d still not like what comes out of her mouth.

It’s the beard, rb. They can’t exactly say you have a trust-worthy beard can they?

I think the evidence is against this. Marty Feldman suffered from an autoimmune disease called Grave’s Disease’s_Disease which resulted in his bulbous eyes. He was very successful as a comedy writer for the BBC in the 1960s, but producers were reluctant to put him in front of a camera because they thought the eyes would detract from the comedy. When he did get on-screen, he was very popular, and his eyes were seen (no pun intended) as comical, rather than attractive.

Bulbous eyes are not attractive, nor are they common. Typically was meant here as usually or often.
Babies often have large eyes in proportion to their faces, and the ones with particularly large eyes always seem to draw admiring people toward them.

Fair enough. I think you’re right, then. Animals like koalas, which also have large eyes, are also considered cute, as are fluffy toys with large eyes.
>Babies often have large eyes in proportion to their faces
They have fat heads in proportion to body size (relative to adult proportions), so maybe it’s partly that.

Actually, they always say I look better, younger, healthier , happier and they are always pleased to see me when I’ve trimmed the beard.
Making people have weird eyes is the staple for horror and scifi movies to indicate they are possessed, aliens, etc, easy and cheap to do
