Nullarbor space rock hunt: Crowdfunded scientists return with their best meteorite haul yet

A group of Melbourne researchers that turned to crowdfunding to pay for their expedition to the Nullarbor in search of meteorites, has returned with its biggest haul yet.

The scientists, led by PhD student Alastair Tait, asked the public to contribute $4,000 towards their project via the crowdfunding site Pozible in February.

After 45 days of fundraising, they raised more than $12,000 which was enough to fund seven people on a 3,400-kilometre round trip from Melbourne, with thousands of dollars left over for future explorations.

“It was really fantastic, in the end we got 305 per cent funding, it was the second highest funded research project on Pozible, in terms of percentage,” Mr Tait said.

Looks about as fun as a poke in they eye…although, that depends on what’s going on in those tents. Looking at cleavage planes no doubt.

:)

I think it looks lovely. When we crossed the Nullarbor, some days we would travel less than 100kmkm. There is so much to see if you take the time.

Provided you return with something of interest, it sounds like a good way to fund a holiday.

Tony Abbott’s chief business adviser has accused the United Nations of using climate change to impose a “new world order” under its control.

Maurice Newman, a climate change sceptic and chairman of the prime minister’s business advisory council, believes the UN is using global warming as a tool to create an “authoritarian world” with concentrated political authority.

“(The UN) is opposed to capitalism and freedom and has made environmental catastrophism a household topic to achieve its objective,” he wrote in an opinion piece in The Australian on Friday.
